The initial sketching process allows me a chance to fix sizing issues, move elements or even add elements as the creative process unfolds.

The digital sketching process can take anywhere from half an hour to two hours. This particular image (after the initial 2 hours on my computer) took only 27 minutes to sketch.

Today I finally took the time to storyboard ideas for the piece. The process involved going through my large collection of photos and picking stylistic elements that both fit the vision in my head and would work together.

I bring these digital pieces into Pixelmator Pro and make a collage. The collage I then move over to my iPad and make an outline sketch of the piece.

It takes about 24 hours to get to Victoria from where I live if I need to drive. Friday was our longest leg of the drive, a twelve hour affair. During my last hour of the drive a certain Beatles song came on the car radio. It's one of my favourites and a piece of art jumped into my brain.
