Kerala Trip Diaries
Hey Dairy,
So last time when I wrote to you, I had given you details of my Nashik Trip. And I had told you I will let you know about my Kerala Trip that I took in March, around my 25th Birthday. Which became a total coincidence, as my Bestie had also been to Kerala same places for her 25th birthday. Well it was kind a difficult to choose the vacation spots between Manali, Otty and Kerala. But finally came up with one destination.
We decided on visiting Munnar, Thekkady and Allephy. The planning, shopping and packing for the trip was very exciting. As it was my first trip far away from Maharashta, without family just me and my husband. Although I am a lazy person and my husband loves travelling, I had never been so happy for trip.
We were suppose to leave for trip at morning via Train in AC compartment. We had one big suitcase and two bag-packs, it took time to settle down. Soon enough we both were comfortable in our seats and fortunately, we had seats for ourselves. Train trip was kind of interesting, we ate some Fried rice as its better to carry some homemade food that isn’t perishable. It was a long trip, we had literally nothing to do other than watching series on phone. We didn’t expect the time to fly to quickly, it was dinner time. We had ordered from online railway app at Goa Station, it was Rajma Chawal for my husband and Butter Chicken Roti for me followed by Red velvet Jar Cake. The food was good for the price. Soon it was midnight and sleep was drawn to our eyes.
Well it was bit difficult to sleep at night, I usually cannot sleep when travelling in train, bus or car. I have this fear of someone stealing in train and bus, and incase of car it’s scary for me. Somehow I was able to sleep when it was almost morning. The destination was suppose to be marked by 10am, we were all up and ready. Till then the beauty of Kerala, the Coconut Trees, nature was really appealing to eyes. Kerala was one of my dream destination. I have a few destination that I want to visit and please my eyes with it’s beauty.
Let’s continue this trip story, pretty soon we arrived Kochi from where our journey started. The very moment we reached Kochi it was a regret to wear sweatshirts, as it was so humid and hot at the same time. We were worried, if our entire trip will be wasted due to the climate. We got out of the railway station, and contacted our driver/ tour guide who was gonna accompany us for the rest of the trip. Once he arrived we kept all our luggage in the compartment, and left for breakfast. We were so hungry, had a spot at South India restaurant. Where I had Dosa as in Nashik also I had the same, cause it being light and filling breakfast. And my Husband had Masala Dosa and Tea, it was a long trip to Munnar. Therefore, it was better to eat light in Mountainous areas.
After our stomach was filled, we left for Munnar. Whilst we had hit the road, my husband didn’t stop but complained about the climate. The entire time he had a frowning face, well he lacks a bit patience though he knows I am not wrong at times like this. I preferred to ignore at that time, and told him to doze off. I don’t understand why he complained though we were in AC car. Not to long had passed, even I felt sleepy, as I hadn’t slept properly at night. I had been woken by my husband’s voice. I opened my blurry and dizzy eyes, to please my eyes with Munnar Tea Plantation and greenery on a Mountainous Ghats. We took many videos and photos to keep memories of such a beauty.
In sometime, we reached our resort Misty Lake Resort by Stride. Well if I have to describe the place, then it was not just beautiful, but very peaceful. Amidst the mountains and forest, the small rooms seems like houses, a pathway to reach different rooms. The swimming pool that was near the dinning hall, a garden near it. We checked in the resort, soon we were allotted our room. It had forest view from the main door, we entered and it was mild climate so peaceful and comfortable. It was all spacious, and the bath was huge and bright. Quickly we unpacked and had bath, got ready and left have lunch. In lunch we had fried rice, we were not sure what to eat as it was new place and we had no idea about food. Therefore, we chose a safe option of rice, later we had coffee to drink.
First day was a bit relaxing, we were just driving and seeing places. Later, we went to our resort and thought of relaxing, as travelling had made us tried. Our definition of relaxation was actually exploring the clubhouse of the resort. Where we played carrom, Snake and Ladder, and Table Tennis, it was boring for me as I wasn’t a pro in all these games. But my husband loved it cause he was winning all of them. Soon we got tired and thought of enjoying the bonfire, that was held in garden area. I hadn’t started so we sat near the pool area, and discussed the visits that we had planned for next day and also discussed dinner. One of the Resort employees informed us then that bonfire was lit. We went and sat near, they played few soothing songs. The climate was pleasant and comfortable, neither too cold nor too hot. It was getting late, and our next day was early so we quickly ordered our food that is Chicken Crispy and Chicken Lollipop. While watching TV we went of to sleep. That was our day 1 in Kerala Munnar.
Day 2 in Munnar, we woke up earlier got ready had South Indian breakfast and left for exploring adventure. Our first spot was Mattupetty Dam that’s near Echo Point. It’s the place were we went for boating. It took us an hour to get us a boat. Their booking was online, in which they had mentioned 2 people boating. But once we had booked and showed at boating area, they said its not available. Hence, we went to helpdesk, where we had lots of trouble and after a long conversation we were avail to sit in family boat. But for that we had to wait for a big group to come and avail one. It was a headache, but worth. Will explain you how, if we had taken 2 people boat or 8 people boat that was jet, it would have been no fun. Jet boats give adrenal rush but the fun is for 15 minutes in which the nature was not fully gasp. Whereas in family boat it was 30 minutes of ride in which we were able to take many photos and videos. And enjoy the Breeze, the water splashing on face, the greenery, etc.
Once the boating was over, our mind was satisfied that we took this adventure and did not leave. At the point there was small food stalls, where I took Cotton Candy Mango flavored and my husband took Ice-cream. Not far we had gone, than the dam where we took few pictures and videos of us. From there we left for next spot that was Madupatty Tea Factory. So Munnar is known for Tea Plantation as I had previously mentioned. In the factory, they toured us of how the Tea is grinded, stored and the entire process till it is packed and delivered. They had different types of tea samples to show us. Though I am not a tea fan, and the fragrance of tea is disliked by me. I still went as my husband’s family are Tea loves, and so is my husband. The Process of tea I had learned in Geography during my school days, but seeing live is a different feel altogether. The tour got over and my husband ran over to taste tea that they were selling right outside the factory.
After he was done with tea tasting, we had our next spot planned that was Rose Garden. From the name itself it was justified that it won’t be more than just roses. But to our surprise it was not just roses but different types to flowers and plants that were seen there. At first we thought it might be small and will be over in few minutes. But when we entered it was huge and so many varieties of plants and flowers. There were many designative trees, arcs, and photo-booths made with trees and leaves. It was attraction for Photographers, Newly married and Photogenic audiences. Being there for 45mins or so, whilst taking pictures and videos we left for next exploration.
Our Next Spot was photo session with Tea Plantation. Where we took lots of photos in different poses. It was already late, and we didn’t have lunch so we were hungry. We had good lunch at a restaurant that was Paneer Tikka and Fried Rice along with Masala Papad the food was good and price was also affordable. Our day for adventure was coming to end. We reached our resort and took a power nap before having dinner. As we had late lunch, none of us were hungry so went for rounds. Sat near poor grasping the breeze and climate, after sitting there peacefully for a while we went to garden. There we sat near bonfire and relaxed our body with soothing music. We had to call for dinner when one of the employee came and told us it was last call for dinner. So we ordered Chicken starter accompanied by noodles. Had dinner and next day we were travelling to Thekkady, so we packed our bags and slept early.
Day 3 off to Thekkady, we took our bags had breakfast and checked out of the resort. Going to Thekkady was a long journey, well we slept till we reached a spot that is Spices Garden. The tourer of Spices garden showed us around the trees, leaves and the process of how the spices are made. At first they gave us Laung that is Clove spice, it was the first step that is from plant well it had strong smell and taste. Moving ahead they showed my spices and their smell and taste, which I didn’t taste after Laung experience. Once the tour was over, we went to buy few spices and shop for family and friends that we had received list obviously. Moving ahead we were taken to Elephant ride that is Tusker Trails. I was scared to ride one, but my husband convinced me that it’s one time experience and we had invested on this trip so I did ride one. Once our chance came, we both video called our family and showed them what we were doing. We had opted for photos therefore the photographer was taking our photos while we were on Elephant. It was a wonderful experience and I am glad I took my chances. They even printed a photo that we liked and gave us other photos copies.
After leaving from Tusker Trails, we reached our hotel for check-in Hotel Vista Luxury. We kept our luggage in the room, got fresh and had lunch. Two hours before sunset we left for Jungle Safari in Periyar Ghats. To visit there one had to go by jeep. Our guide and photographer know as Ghats_of_Periyar. Unfortunately, we couldn’t see any animals, but took so many photos and videos and they were so professionals and beautiful. Well we couldn’t take photos as expected during wedding as time didn’t prevail so we were satisfied with our guides service. And he shared lots of knowledge and about surrounding tribes and villages. We saw the most beautiful sunset, and we got many photos with Sunset.
After it got dark, we were dropped off at our hotel. And we thanked him for such a beautiful service. After the ride, I was coughing due to soil and pollen in air. After Reaching the room got fresh and rested for while. Meanwhile my husband went to market to get cake and surprise me as next day was my Birthday. But I already knew why he went so I was relaxed. He came and tried to hide the pastry and keep in fridge, and me being a spoiler spoiled his surprise. I was tried so had my dinner and slept. Woken up by my families video call, five minutes prior to 12am. At 12am everyone wished me and my husband had decorated the table with pastry and gave me all princess treatment. With all celebration and special treatment I was very happy and with all the memories we slept as next day we were off to other Location.
Day 4 taking off to Alleppey, we had english breakfast and packed our suitcase. Alleppey is known for its backwater and Houseboats. We didn’t opt for houseboat but house by the stream. I had specially kept the dates as such that my birthday would fall on the day when we reach Alleppey. The moment we entered it border, it was humid, not sweaty but heat humid even though we were in AC car we could feel the humidity. The entire place was full of Backwater and it was so beautiful, it felt like Venice, though I have never been there. The entire place is covered by streams, and we got to know that if a person needs to go from one village to other they had to use boat as there were not bridges. Every household had atleast one boat to travel. Before check-in we were went for boating, an entire boat was booked for us. It is bit costly but worth it.
It was 2-3 Hours of experience, we left from port and the driver took and explained us about the villages and Alleppey sites, famous places, church, etc. The view from our boat was out of the world, had never seen like this it was worth everything. The driver stopped in between for lunch during our boat ride. Where we had authentic South Indian food and Prawns fry. The curry rice was so finger licking good and prawns fry I had no words it still makes my mouth water, the spices and masala it had I cannot describe how amazing it was. I would really go back just to eat them again. They also had Kite bird with them, who one could keep on their hand. I didn’t try but my husband did and he took ample amount of photos. Soon enough we left from there and sat in out boat, took few photos and video of us and surrounding. We reached a point were the river and sea met, we were in the sea and it felt like roller coaster ride. The boat was making moment along with the waves, the water was splashing against the boat and on us. It was a joyous ride and fun to sit and see.
Sadly, the ride had to end we reached our port from where our tour guide picked up and dropped us by our Lakeside resort. The resort was in small village in channels. The resort was mouth dropping, it was like the South Indian Movies so authentic similar to Ashrams but in better ways. The 3/4 of the resort was surrounded by water and we received a room in front of the stream. We got a good view were we could see birds by the water. Our room us feel of wooden houses, though it wasn’t just wood and washroom was open but closed. It had shelter above it and had ample amount of light, spacious and cozy. We were tired from waves which sort of gave us massage of relief, so we rested for sometime. For dinner we had Prawns Ghee Roast and Roti which was spicy and tasty. While watching TV we had dinner and slept peacefully.
The Final day, we packed our clothes and went to have Idli Sambar alongside Bread and Omlette. And left for Kochi to board our train back to Mumbai. On the way we took some Kerala famous Banana Chips and Tea powder. The road was distance to about 2 hours, once we reached Kochi we had taken our food parcel from Forum Mall. By reaching Kochi station we bid adieu to the guide and thanked him for a wonderful trip. When we reached station we got to know our train was 1 hour late. Till then we waited at the station, once train reached we boarded it. Had our lunch and played few games, watch series again it was a long journey. Soon it was dinner time, we called for some Dominos pizza as we were not that hungry. And slept for the night, as I had told you I was self aware and hardly slept. By next day Afternoon we had reached Mumbai our Home. It was had to believe that such a beautiful and adventurous trip got over so quickly. But we hope for new trip and new us to be going soon.
Until Then See You Diary…

Ever bought an album on the strength of a single song? I have, more than once, and this is one of the songs that made me do it.
(The rest of the album, BTW, is absolutely worth it.)
