I find all the hand wringing about Western population growth to be interesting.
I'm the father of one from a family of three (I'd have liked two, but c'est la vie). I can see how there's probably a stronger pull towards replication of what you had/know rather than something different, but at the same time, it's a pretty big economic commitment to have a kid...
I can see how a multi-generational singleton trend in the current economy is likely to result in some organic degrowth of the population, and personally, I think that's okay (modulo the inescapable economic consequences of it). The other alternatives I can think of are: war, pandemic, or unsustainable growth.
