I have been using the #ZenBrowser for several months now, and I have to say it is very nice.

It does things a bit differently, so it took a while to get used to it, but after I got over the hump I've enjoyed using it. This is most evident in the left-side panel that has the URL bar, tabs, and everything else, which hides away automatically in Compact mode. I love it.

It is based on #Firefox, so it's not contributing to the #Chromium takeover. Also, it has its very specific Firefox quirks.

I've been playing with different #Android #WebBrowser. My primary is #Firefox with #Vivaldi as a #Chromium backup. Vivaldi is fine, but I prefer other options over it.

I tend to prefer #OpenSource options, so I tried #Brave again because it has some decent privacy options built-in, but it actually feels a little slower and reinforces my preference for #Gecko over Chromium. I also have reservations about the owner.

#Waterfox seems like a possibility and I might try #Fennec.

I don't want to sacrifice a ton of usability for the sake of privacy for every day tasks.

I decided to take a look at the settings in the chromium snap and sure enough "ozone-platform-hint" was set to "default", which meant chromium was using X11 instead of Wayland as its backend

Since the upcoming release of chromium will change this to "auto", I figured I'd try it out now and everything seems fine (including screensharing in Zoom).

It could be placebo, but it also feels like fonts in Google Drive are crisper...

Between projects like @servo and https://ladybird.org/ - it's good to see some developing alternatives to the current #Chromium dominated browser landscape.

If I had a more conspiracist mind, I'd say that the timing of #Google's proposal to remove #XSLT support from #Chrome #Chromium #Blink just as we are seeing a resurgence of interest in #RSS and the #indieWeb away from the centralized #GAFAM silos is quite suspicious.

Using #pwa on #Android for social media is actually a very solid experience.

I've been using webapps for #mastodon, #lemmy, #pixelfed, #bookwyrm (well, there is no app for it afaik) and #tilvids.

That is, until you realize you are forced to use a #chromium browser if you want notifications - #Firefox still only has "bookmark icons".

To be fair though, I start to think that could be a positive for those (me) who would like to pick up their phones less often 🤔

Anyone know why -webkit-text-stroke doesn't work on Chrome browsers? Is there a work around?

There is this browser called #Falkon. GitHub shows little to no activity, but the browser works and has basic functionality. I'm totally not asking because it's my favourite lightweight browser and I'd love to see someone take this canvas and paint on it.😇
AFAIK it uses the #chromium engine. If I understand correctly, you want to make an engine of your own? It would be cool if Falkon wasn't based on chromium anymore. Just saying🤪
