#Chekhov Chekhov’s story, Gusev, gives us an account of the people in the hold of a steamship heading from the Pacific Northeast of Russia home to, most likely, the Black Sea. The people in the hold are very sick. The hold is a stifling place, and they are coughing and lying around and playing cards and dying. Gusev is one of them. Formerly an orderly for an officer, he is going back to, optimally, rest and recuperate in his village.

In Chekhov’s The Steppe, a boy, Yegorushka, is travelling in a cart across the Russian steppe with his Uncle, Kuzmichov, a merchant, and his Uncle’s partner, a priest, Father Khristofor. Yegorushka is going to school, and enters the story in tears, as he is going to be parted from his mother. limitedinc.blogspot.com/2025/0 #Chekhov

It is always a good time to discover feminist literature. I have just discovered Anton Chekhov who was a feminist. At the end of this week I will make another video about Chekhov and his play The Cherry Orchard and I will explain why I am fangirl of this feminist writer. In the meantime please check out my first video on Chekhov's The Seagull. #feminism #Books #Chekhov #Bookstodon #BookTube

✨ "Dosvidania, Nina." A farewell etched on a Venetian tombstone, marking the final resting place of Anna “Nina” Sloutzky—a young Russian noblewoman who journeyed to Venice for love, secrecy, and solace. Her tragic story may have even inspired Chekhov himself after he visited San Michele. Did this mysterious tale echo through The Seagull and Three Sisters? Discover the romance, mystery, and legacy of Nina in my latest blog post. 🌊🖋️ #VeniceStories #RussianLiterature #Chekhov #SanMichele

La “#derussificazione” dell'Ucraina - Il Post
ilpost.it/2023/02/17/ucraina-p

“Inspector, you are wrong. The gun was not the murder weapon.”
“Holmes?”
“Note the stuffed trophy heads arrayed around the gun. One of those killed Chekhov..”
“You’re not saying…?!”
“Yes, Inspector. The gnu was loaded. Sometimes, even Checkov misdirected.’
“I Khan’t fathom that.”

April 1935: The Moscow Art Players, under the leadership of Michael Chekhov, were performing at the Chestnut Street Opera House.

In their repertoire was the classic "The Inspector General" (under the title "Restor") by Gogol, a Soviet sex farce by V. Shvarkin called "Strange Child," and "The White Guard" (directed by and starring the actress Vera Gretch). There was also an evening of dramatized versions of Anton Chekhov's short stories.

I think I may start reading #Dostoevsky (and #Chekhov and #Gogol, et al) again, because I suspect I will really vibe with the themes of social alienation in a crushingly indifferent world.

#RussianLit is the most thematically appropriate stuff I can think of for this apocalypse.

Reading some Chekhov. You can’t put a hundred year old bookcase in the first act without finding a long lost cherry recipe inside it in the fourth act.

Do we as critical readers just find meaning where none was intended, or are these old texts just trolling us from afar?

I'm reading a Chekhov play and it doesn't feel real; or at least it's a joke that doesn't translate well.
