After all this much needed rain decided to move some more plants into my car / greenhouse to keep the slugs off them as long as possible. Been putting the trays on the car roof for a bit of watering. Not needed to use it for a few days but must reorganise tomorrow to make space to collect #CommunityFridge food donations! #gardening #allotment #AllotmentLife #permaculture #GrowYourOwn

A #CommunityFridge sad plant update after yesterdays donation of many dry or over watered bedding plants. After a bit of tidying up of dead leaves and some serious rehydration overnight they are looking fine. Only 3 plants were properly dead. Some have gone into hanging baskets, many have been picked up by local residents and shopkeepers - still about another 30 to rehome next week.

Well today's random donation to the #CommunityFridge was around 100 pots of primroses and pansies from the supermarket that had either dried out completely or been over watered and nearly died. About 30 were absolutely fine and the rest needed tidying up dead bits so left them all soaking in water overnight and will see how they are in the morning. Will use some to make hanging baskets and give lots to the outdoor cafe at our local theatre and the rest can go to anyone who wants them via the #CommunityFridge.

Well today's random donation for the #CommunityFridge is 36 bottles of this horrid looking nutritional supplement..mango and passion fruit flavour. Oddly we can shift these easily..know a couple of people who like them and these are vegan and gluten free so local wildlife rescue can use them for some of their injured animals.

Got given a batch of very old fruit and veg seeds and done some germination testing (most have 50 - 70% germination rates which is pretty good). Thought I'd just plant these globe artichoke seeds and give them a try. Seeds are allegedly best sown before 2017. I soaked them for a few days in water and then put in a covered seed tray in my car to act as a mini greenhouse. 2 weeks later half have come up. It really does annoy me the hype from seed sellers that you must use new seeds - it is true for some veg but for most things it really isn't! For anyone concerned about where I'm going to plant a dozen globe artichokes which will grow into enormous plants.. will give most away through our #CommunityFridge and keep one. #permaculture #GrowYourOwn #Allotment #AllotmentLife

Hi there! Lately I have been working to print and distribute radical zines (and PPE) to my neighborhood's little free libraries and community fridges. As a disabled comrade, I sometimes find myself feeling like I can't do enough - but things like this is my way of getting my boots on the ground!

It is my current goal to purchase a laser printer so I can print many more zines and also take on print jobs for folks who want a trusted place to print their own flyers/zines/stickers, etc.

To that end I have set up a Liberapay at https://liberapay.com/drscully/ to fund this goal. I am looking to raise $500 USD to purchase the Brother MFCL3780CDW. Any surplus (for example if I manage to snag a refurbished unit) will go towards keeping things going with paper and toner and PPE for the community.

Today at our #CommunityFridge we have been pondering what to do with #kumquats ..as you do on a Thursday afternoon! Definitely one of our more unusual donations.

An amusingly bizarre evening meal consisting almost entirely of random leftovers from the #CommunityFridge..we had 30kg of sprouts donated today so made stir-fry sprout and spring onion satay with jasmine rice followed by a pudding of almond croissants! Had some sachets of gochujang glaze and fresh chilli so only ingredient I needed to add was a bit of peanut butter.

Tee hee.. just cooked up dinner with a couple of things from the freezer. Hadn't realised husband was watching #MasterchefTheProfessionals so when I gave him his food I put my deepest husky voice on and said... ' Jo has prepared a slow roasted pepper and tomato basque served with tortellini quatre formaggio' Basque was made when we had a huge amount of red peppers and tomatoes left at our #CommunityFridge so just roasted it all and added a bit of onion and whizzed it down.

Well today I collected 'some fresh cut sage' that was offered to our #CommunityFridge. However, 'some' turned out to be a large black bin bag full. Rehomed a lot of it to local pubs and restaurants who will have some sage related dishes on their menus soon and a local herbalist will be making potions with it too.

Running a #CommunityFridge often means we get unexpected food donations at odd times. 3 hours after we closed another charity delivered 3 boxes of #MarksAndSpencer bread and pastries and 2 boxes of salad. I have literally been accosting passers by and tempting them with almond croissants.. got rid of most of it now though. #WasteFood
