Bottom Line:
👉 Approximately 14,660 potential excess #deaths per year!
👉 The equivalent of the seventh leading cause of #death (age 25-65)
👉 Approximately 623 000 additional individuals will face #catastrophic health-care #costs annually
What #Trump and the #GOP are trying to do is Bad Juju!
"Approximately 72 million individuals in the USA are enrolled in #Medicaid nationwide.2 Without compensatory state-level policies, an estimated 15·5 million people would lose Medicaid coverage in the 40 states that expanded Medicaid and the District of Columbia.2 A 2022 study linked Medicaid expansion with an 11·8 per 100 000 person-year reduction in mortality of people aged 25–64 years (95% CI –21·3 to –2·2).3 Applying this figure to the states affected by the proposed cuts, potential excess deaths could reach approximately 14 660 (95% CI 2733 to 26 462) over a 1-year period for people aged 25–64 years, the equivalent of the seventh leading cause of death in that age group across affected states.4 Certain populations, such as rural residents with low income, might be disproportionately affected."
"Loss of Medicaid coverage will increase financial hardship. The 2008 Medicaid expansion in Oregon reduced the incidence of catastrophic health-care expenditures by 4·48 percentage points (95% CI –0·69 to –8·26).5 Based on projected coverage losses, we estimate that approximately 623 000 additional individuals aged 25–64 years (95% CI 91 000 to 1·07 million) will face catastrophic health-care costs annually."
