Stunning Stained Glass Greenhouse Transforms London’s Streets into a Living Work of Art
In the middle of London, there's a greenhouse made entirely from old stained glass windows, and it's catching everyone's attention. Artists Heywood and Condie used windows from old churches to create this glowing artwork, also known as “Sacré Blur”. During the day, the sunlight shines through the colorful glass, and at night, it lights up like a glowing piece of art. Sitting between tall, modern buildings, this greenhouse is a mix of history and creativity. It brings something […]https://streetartutopia.com/2025/01/29/green-house-made-from-recycled-church-stained-glass-windows/
I decided to do a blog post write-up of how I save transit cards and use them to launch virtual photo albums and more: https://itsdaves.site/2025/01/09/nfc-cards-for-memories/
If you’re using iOS and live somewhere with “disposable” NFC transit fare media, congrats: you can rescue discarded tags to use for “smart” tag activities.
What Happens When a Plate Shatters and Its Artistic Pieces Go Free?
FRAGMENTED: Turning Broken Plates Into Art
Rob Strati’s “Fragmented” series shows how something broken can become something beautiful. It all started with a plate that belonged to his wife’s late mother, Barbara. One day, the plate fell and shattered into pieces. Instead of throwing it away, Strati saw an opportunity to create art.

Rob explains it best:
“This work was inspired by a plate from my wife’s late mother, Barbara. One day it was dropped and shattered. Some time after, I picked up a pen and started working on the ‘Fragmented’ series, exploring the possibilities of things broken and the stories that can evolve from them.”
Using the shapes of the broken plate, Strati created intricate pen drawings. Each piece became part of a new story, showing how beauty can grow from something unexpected.

Finding Beauty in Broken Things
Strati’s work reminds us that imperfections can be powerful. His art is similar to kintsugi, a Japanese tradition of fixing broken pottery with gold to celebrate its cracks. Instead of hiding the damage, Strati’s series lets the broken pieces inspire something fresh and creative.

Love this helpful page re donations to ArtHive, a #creativereuse shop.

Scroll down to see #creativereuse shops by state OR Canadian province and map at the end. Creative reuse shops are places you can donate old art supplies, fabric, etc, go shopping for fun items, and most shops host events and lessons. Also, great outing for kids!

A lot more of my basil went to seed so I’m trying an experiment. I’m getting one of those little electronic potato chip bag resealers and gonna try making little seed packets from plastic packaging that I can’t recycle. #ZeroWaste #SolarPunk #GrowFood #CreativeReuse
This is another great idea (imho).
LENDING LIBRARIES
"Create a free community lending library to let people freely lend and exchange tools, seeds, sleds or snowshoes, books, cooking equipment, games, and more.
"Nearly every community has a traditional library, but why stop at loaning out books? Community lending libraries are helping neighbors lend and share all sorts of items, from seeds and cooking equipment to sports gear and tools. They take many shapes and forms, from the common Little Free Libraries you see on streets and in neighborhoods to more formalized libraries that lend items other than books. Just like regular libraries, lending libraries have many benefits — decreasing consumption, helping people access tools and supplies for free, and building community."

@mu This is one kind of reuse center that I found on the web. It's something a local library could sponsor. Also, there are places that do that with building materials (#HabitatForHumanity #ReStores).
#CreativeReuse Centers Benefit #Communities & the #Planet

"What Is a #CreativeReuseCenter?
"A creative reuse center is a #CraftThriftStore and so much more. It’s a business or nonprofit organization that collects #usable materials, leftovers, or surplus creative supplies and redistributes them to the community for reuse. These organizations accept donations from individuals as well as manufacturers, industry partners, and businesses. Donations can be in the form of leftover craft supplies such as your craft stash. They may also include cabinet or flooring samples from a home renovation company or the end of a roll of vinyl from a sign manufacturer.
"Each center makes decisions differently and has different donors and #donations rules, but the ethos is consistent: They help people see the potential in useable waste as art. The creative possibilities of cast-off materials are limited only by the imagination of the artist. Creative reuse is all about #upcycling and #repurposing: elevating and #reusing an unwanted material or item into something entirely new with purposeful value."

Very old unused postcards from Wexford are charming...putting them in pile for #creativereuse shop.
Fortunately @mbroome dug through the workshop and found an old chunk of Romex... (Probably left over from when we ran additional electrical circuits into our home offices in our old house - over 20 years ago. 😊) The coated wire inside is just the right stiffness to make an interior armature for the tail!
So now I have a nice project for this stormy afternoon...
