Resize root partition in Debian VM

Hello Linux friends,

Looking for some help today. Some dummy who won’t be named undersized the partition for his Debian VM at 32Gb. This was not enough space, as the VM is already out of storage. In Proxmox where the VM is hosted, I’ve already allocated extra space for this VM using Proxmox’s built in GUI tools. The problem is, I’m not sure how to properly extend the partition within the VM itself, using the terminal only, without breaking everything (something I obviously don’t want to do, lol).

I’ve done a bit of searching and people seem to be recommending tools like fdisk and resize2fs, both of which are not installed, and I’m afraid that I don’t have any available space to install them. I’m also a bit of a noob and some of the language for drives and partitioning just flies over my head.

Any tips on:
- Clearing a bit of space on a Debian VM (that’s mostly using Docker, no other programs/files running constantly)
- Resizing root partitions without too much headache
Would be greatly appreciated!

Astronomers have imaged the largest protoplanetary #disk ever observed around a young #star.

For the first time in visible light, images obtained with #Hubble have revealed the disk is unexpectedly chaotic and turbulent, with wisps of material stretching much farther above and below the disk than seen in any similar system.

#Planet nurseries can be much more active and chaotic than expected.

We’re seeing this disk nearly edge-on and its wispy upper layers and asymmetric features are especially striking. Images from both Hubble and #JWST have revealed similar structures in other disks, but IRAS 23077+6707 provides us with an exceptional perspective — allowing us to trace its substructures in visible light at an unprecedented level of detail.

This makes the system a unique, new laboratory for studying planet formation and the environments where it happens.

Sun Fire & SAS drive replacement - FreeBSD

Had to replace a disk drive in a #SunFire server. Purchased a 12G/s drive and didn't know if it would be working in this old #Sun folk. It did, with negotiated 3G/s speed. I run into problems with Adaptec and low-level format. This is how to solve them.

In April this year I got a 12TB WD Red SATA drive for 294 €, which is now 519 €!

I think I'll delete some of my Linux ISOs instead of adding more HDD space to the array..

@thomasfuchs One day the Compact Floppy Disks / CF-2 will rise again. Mark my words! And as an adapter, hell, you could fit a CF card in there.

(I bought one of these drives and used it as D2 on a used Apple IIe I grabbed from the local newspaper classifieds back in 1987 or so -- only ever had four blank disks, so it didn't get a lot of use. Was novel, though, especially here in the states.)
