#DecSync

2025-01-06
I published my review of the year that was on my website (The New Leaf Journal) in 2024. In so doing, I put together a list of our 81 most-visited articles (according to our entirely local page-view counter). In 6th place was my 2021 article about installing Ubuntu Touch on a 2013 Google Nexus 7 (UT no longer supports the device). 10th place was my 2021 article about installing LineageOS on the same device (no longer officially supported, although there is a ROM available). 30 and 37 were two 2021 articles about my Murena Teracube 2e phone running /e/ OS (phone no longer sold but /e/ does still push updates, so that's nice). 46th place was my 2023 article on DecSync, a neat syncting utility which has not seen an update in several years. What do all these articles have in common? They are OUTDATED, or more charitably, legacy posts about things I did or used at a time certain. But these articles continue to be big parts of The New Leaf Journal, so I wanted to reassure readers that all of the devices are still alive. (I may have some articles in store about some of them in 2025.) Note the keyboard is a Logitech K310, which I used until last spring and has been out of production for several years -- that article came in at 31st.

We see two Google Nexus 7 2013 tablets laid out next to each other above a keyboard and phone, all on a carpeted floor. The left tablet is open to the Ubuntu Touch launcher. The right tablet, running LineageOS, is open to F-Droid with the DecSync CC app in F-Droid. On the bottom, we have a gray and white Logitech K310 keyboard. Resting on the keyboard's numpad is a Teracube 2e phone open to the /e/ OS App Store.

@fosstastic #decsync is what you're looking for. Worked for me the last years.

You can sync the repo with #syncthing

Evviva Syncthing.

Allora ho configurato Radicale + plugin per DecSync e sincronizzato tutto con Syncthing.

Praticamente ho quello che avevo con Nextcloud ma piu efficiente, mooolto piu efficiente!

I reviewed DecSync, a very useful utility which allows for syncing contacts, calendars, tasks, and RSS feeds/read states without a server -- generally using Syncthing.

I personally use DecSync for contacts, calendars, and tasks, and I used it for feeds for about one year. It works well and is an interesting project, but note that clients and implementations are primarily for Android and Linux (I use it with EndeavourOS and LineageOS).

@joel I see, indeed after further investigation it appears that #DecSync doesn't just store/sync a single ICS file (if only it did, then that should work fine with Gnome Calendar - based on previous tests)...

Early impressions after upgrading from Thunderbird 91 in the Manjaro repos to the new v102 from the AUR.

I just realized #DecSync is a thing. It's a way to sync stuff such as #RSS feeds, calendars or contacts with any folder sync tool, such as #Syncthing

There are RSS clients that support it based on Flym and spaRSS, I think newsboat is close to getting support, if it doesn't already...

So, yeah, this is amazing, no more need to import and export opml files or using servers at all.

I already use #miniflux but this looks pretty tempting!

#Decsync is working perfectly, I'll stick to it until it stops working. Previously a happy #NextcloudPi user, but the second server crash this year really bummed me out. Some beginners issues with #Syncthing but over all quite easy to get into.

I've been trying out #DecSync, the local storage #Groupware solution that syncs android and linux' Evolution's local storage through #Syncthing. (It also provides a privately synced RSS reader for maximum privacy).

Works great so far, the creator also added support for #OpenTasks on android and updated the Evolution plug-in yesterday.

Contacts, calendar and tasks works with entry level set-up for linux users, perfect for new users escaping the windows+google etc.!

@tkdefender if hosting is an option then #yunohost or else #decsync

github.com/39aldo39/DecSync and syncthing.net/ for syncing contacts, calendars, and RSS without using any central server.

I'm shutting down my #NextCloud sever. Going to use #DecSync and #SyncThing as my default. No server needed. Now that I'm dropping my home internet for mobile only, its hard to justify.

So far my contacts and calendar are effortlessly synced.

@Danesprite #decsync is nice too. Only 2 applications properly support it. Still a nice addition to any sync application (especially syncthing)

#DecSync CC is an android application which synchronizes contacts and calendars using DecSync. To start synchronizing, all you have to do is synchronize the directory DecSync located in the primary external storage, using for example #Syncthing. #serverlesssync #nextcloud #oss
