Today was the real start of my semester at UOW. I had a meeting with disability support to get everything in place, since I officially began yesterday. My first tutorial is at 3:30 this afternoon, followed by a lecture straight after. It feels good to be settling in and starting to find my rhythm.

I also contacted HumanWare about my Brailliant Braille display, which has been giving me some issues. Thankfully, it’s still under warranty, so I’ll be sending it off for repairs tomorrow. Fingers crossed it comes back in good shape!

Tonight’s dinner is chicken schnitzel with mashed potatoes and veggies, prepared by my husband, who is an absolutely brilliant cook. I feel very lucky.

After weeks of struggling with my previous institution, I finally made the difficult decision to withdraw. Despite submitting all documentation for disability adjustments early and following up multiple times, there were constant delays. Two weeks just to acknowledge a form (which included full reports and suggested supports) is far too long. These cases often simply need a conversation to confirm adjustments, not endless reviews.

There were also serious communication gaps: classes scheduled on public holidays with no clear guidance, lecturers not turning up, no way to reach them directly via email, and Canvas messages going unanswered. Even when I physically went to campus, staff tried to help but could not get through to anyone with authority to act. It was disheartening, especially because the course content was excellent. However, I’m thankful that I’ve now enrolled elsewhere and begin my studies on June 23. I’m already receiving much better support and feel hopeful moving forward.

Trying to stay on top of study while waiting on disability supports and special consideration to be approved. It’s been nearly 2 weeks since I first asked about reasonable adjustments, and I’m still waiting. Also no word yet on special consideration for an assessment due 15 June. It’s stressful and I’m doing my best.

If this isn’t sorted by Wednesday (the census date), I do have a pending offer elsewhere I could accept. That would be a real pity though, because I genuinely love the course I’m in.
