So i had a FOH spot that was far away from pretty but as if been told by the crowd the sound didn't suck completely.
Everything working out like i planned was a great feeling.
To the FOH fellows here...
I'm testing snippet cues like gtrs up a bit for chorus, snare up on blastbeats aso.
Do you automate channel faders and leave dca for manual leveling or do you automate dca and do the "every night is different" adjust on the channel level?
I have pros and cons on either side an are happy to hear other thoughts on this.
Yesterday: #FOH with #vcvRack on #UbuntuStudio #Linux 24.04 as a #DMX / #ArtNet controller (via #MidiMonster).
Finally had the time to fix a broken fader on one of the #DiGiCo #SD12 consoles at work.
As you move the throw of the fader it pulls along a loop of toothed belt. The belt wraps around a gearwheel and solid brass pin on one end, and a plastic fitting on the armature of the motor, with a friction-fit gearwheel at the other.
The tiny plastic gearwheel split and fell off. Rather than spend hundreds on a new fader (and wait for shipping from the uk), a miniscule drop of superglue fixed the split, and another to prevent it coming off the armature.
Cost for fix: 1hr, $1.29 (superglue)
How to transport #MIDI over #network the easy way? #fedihelp
So, my client just called me, and it turns out… I need to have his MIDI signal from stage at my #FOH, which is around 40m of cable.
I got a CAT cable running with TCP/IP infrastructure anyways.
I know that #RTPMIDI exists, but I never have used it.
So I need something that takes #USBMIDI and makes it available 40 meters somewhere else. Or I need to send USB over 40 meters, doesn't really matter.
I think the endpoint for the MIDI transmission will be VCV Rack on Linux.
Must happen the day after tomorrow, so buying something is not a solution.
I have available: 1 Ubuntu Studio 24.4 laptop. 1 Windows 10 laptop. 1 MacBook Pro 2017. Several iPads, something Bluetooth-MIDI working with one of the iPads.
I used to have #midimonster but it cannot be installed on Ubuntu any more due to dependency shit.
EDIT: See my own answer in 🧵 for a solution.
[FOH nerdiness incoming]
Setting up my good old X32 for an upcoming live-job. (Yes, Wing, A&H blabla. I got the gig with this so it seems to be ok. Will upgrade when needed.)
I want to be as slim as possible gear wise without missing some benefits. Doing some positioning tries with all the stuff but not really happy yet. Separate FOH rack should be avoided if possible. But atm this is really messy.

Some asshole (now blocked) replied some assholish thing to me the other day. His bio: "got kicked off mastodon.social"
Dude, you got kicked off dickhead and spammer central and you're bragging?
If I could block you twice, I would.
On my way to #aachen for my final #KoraWinter show this year, doing #FrontOfHouse at #PeaceOnEarth festival:

2/2…what’s going on ? Well…real time pitch correction is a thing- a capability brought into #FOH, stage mixes and consoles at all levels. The notion of live pitch correction becoming a default for vocalists is maximally disturbing because pitch correction negates the natural live feedback that vocalists normally use to find home base : the thing calibrating your vocal gives no feedback on how far off you are. It corrects at fixed distance and takes your own ears out of the feedback loop.Bad idea
POV it's your job to set up the band rack with the new digital mixer that will be the nerve center for everything that goes on, and your maiden voyage includes two members of Rascal Flatts 😱
Hey #foh #AudioEngineer crowd,
I'm looking for a reliable stand-alone sound meter when mixing live shows
I don't do shows all year long, but I'd like to have something that is reliable but also affordable. The shows are starting to be mid-sized and I'd like to add this to my arsenal 🤗
Would like to order from Germany and not Amazon. Found this one, any good? https://de.trotec.com/produkte-services/messgeraete/emission/schallpegel-messgeraete/sl400-schallpegel-messgeraet/
You need to know the fundamentals of a good mix in order to get everything else right
Follow this tutorial to see if the Systems that you use are proper or need some tweaking
Remember your ears are your designated sensors to check The Balance **not** your meters!

#Behringer has very good quality, yet affordable PA professional audio equipment. I combine the superb features that #Yamaha #Tascam #Mackie et al, deliver with Behringer affordablily, to shape my audio signal path from mic 🎙️ 🎤 & instruments to my multi track destination
