Spruce Street Harbor Park

Before checkout, on the day after the wedding we were attending at the Hilton, I took a walk outside and snapped a few images of Spruce Street Harbor Park.

Mid-June we spent 2 days on a #Fieldtrip to the #Maade #River in #Wilhelmshaven as part of our #METAscales project
Day 1: Installed two new #SEBA gauges to track water level & conductivity—crucial in our sluice-and-pumping-station-drained catchment. 🔧 🌊 🛠️
Day 2: Gained hands-on experience with our boats & ADCP for bathymetry surveys. 🚤💧🔍

Okay #Edmonton, #fieldtrip time! 😂😂😂

A friend took refuge yesterday from post-#hockey traffic at #TheBay in #Kingsway Garden Mall.

They found some … interesting #mannequins ready for sale.

😳🤔😂

Three faceless store mannequins (fabric heads, torsos, and pelvises; wood or plastic articulated arms and hands) stand in a line. The first has arms raised as though in surprise or delight, the one behind is delicately fidding with the first's nipple region, and the third is reaching to grasp the second's arse at a Hudson's Bay store in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada where final contents and fixtures are for sale.

Field trip to gather some first VOC samples of the invasive Asian hornet (Vespa velutina).
Really productive day, thrilled to get the data in the lab later.

Some highlights from our scoping trip to Paris for our next game, codename 'Claude'! Was a crazy fun but very busy week!

Strum those harp strings again!

Another #flashback!

It was around grade 4 in primary school & my class was sent on a #fieldtrip.

Our destination? #LuggagePoint in #Brisbane.

Why? To be introduced to the smell of #rawsewage!

How did we get there? On dinky little #ferries along the #BrisbaneRiver.

There’s nothing like bobbing up & down for an eternity, thinking you’re going to sink & drown at any moment & then be assaulted by the stench of raw sewage.

I saw lots of #vomiting that day!

You’d walk down a rickety wooden gang plank & jump into the ferry as it moved in the wake of large ships. The tiny ferries looked like something WW2 commando’s would use to sneak into a harbour.Luggage Point. The most revolting smells known to man were generated here!

Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed — Kiran and the Giant Water Bug

I had visited the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed several times before, but some mornings feel more meaningful, and this was one of them.

Had a pretty good day so far. Went on a field trip with my preschooler’s class to an apple orchard. Bought some gluten-free Trader Joe’s baked dessert. Rebuilt my plex server on a new host.

Felt good to be this productive for myself and family.

🌍 Sometimes, for really understanding Geography, we have to climb mountains, get underground in old mines, and crawl through ravines.

📷 Here are some images from the excursion, where Tobias Hank & Christoph Heinzeller have taken their students on a 1500km travel up, underneath and across the .

💡 At the glacier, the former mining city , the karstic caves of Škocjan, and the cliffs of , the students experienced Geography first-hand.

This photo could be an album cover for some excellent but currently obscure alternative band.

It highlights another great thing about teaching field trips, and that is getting to know students better. There are such amazingly diverse and interesting personalities amongst young people today, much more so than I remember when I was young (pre-internet). Yet, they're all totally respectful of one another and work well together.
