Norwegian blues 1/3

As a kid, I'd go to Norway regularly. Before our westerly brethren struck oil and got -- and stayed! good job, you guys! -- filthy rich, Swedes would cross the border to buy sugar, flour, butter, syrup, and the like. One person = one ration, so people would cram their little cars full of kids, and the occasional cat, and stock up on these essential foodstuffs. Most people weren't all that well off in those days, so it wasn't just for the nice outing. You were skimping any way you could.

Since then, Norway has been insanely expensive for Swedes. My trips there as an adult have been few and brief. Lately, though, the two neighbouring currencies are kinda seeing eye to eye, so we decided to FINALLY make a trip. Yay!

Äldre bävergnagd björk, där stammen svallat in och täckt delar av det gnaga.

Ikväll blev det ett dopp i sjön istället för en dusch. Har varit över 27 grader i vattnet idag, 26,4 strax efter kl 20.

Helt galet.

Det här är en fjällsjö där vi tyckte 17 grader var varmt vatten när jag var barn.

Bara är njuta medan världen brinner, eller?

Utsikten var i alla fall helt fantastisk. Synd bara att det i princip är omöjligt att sitta kvar och njuta pga mygg och broms, men framförallt svädan.

That tree in one of the pictures is Ol’ Tjikko. Europe’s oldest tree with a root network, that’s said to be over 9000 years old. Half a year later a severe storm took the upper half of the tree.

And it’s behind bars now because tourists kept breaking off twigs and branches for souvenirs, despite the exact location of the tree was kept a secret.

Made it to Helags (about 110km on my route). Will take some days off to wait out a storm. Also, my body just needs it. Every now and then I got a glimpse of the sun, despite all this hard work, I feel really blessed.

Decided to do Vita Bandet this year. A 1400km trek on tour ski following the Scandinavian mountain range. Already in full planning mode. Route planning, resupply planning, gear testing and ordering. What food to bring? Watching tons of YouTube videos to teach me. Am I frightened? Yes, because I don’t really have the experience. Will it stop me from doing it? I hope not! Before I saw the aurora in #marsfjället I got treated to a nice long #goldenhour in an area where autumn is already colouring the landscape. The whole mountain-range has these warm colours that really pop when the sun starts to set.
For me this is by far the most beautiful time of the year to be in the mountains even though the weather is totally unpredictable.
