For the past week or two I've been trying out #Vivaldi as a fallback to #Firefox/#Librewolf.
The good:
- As tragedy of the commons as it is, the internet designs for Chrome. There were a (small) handful of places where Vivaldi was less painful.
- The sidebar is *really* nice. I found the ability to instantly summon my web calendar/todo list/notes was neat. FF has a sidebar, but only extensions are allowed to populate it, and even then only one icon per extension. Vivaldi lets you put any icon anywhere.
- Some of the gesture support is neat.
- Because you can configure the bookmarks bar folder, #Floccus is able to sync the folder directly, rather than forcing me to keep everything in a Sync tab on my bookmarks bar.
- A browser vendor making an explicit #NoAI commitment is fantastic!
- Meanwhile, perplexity mysteriously added itself to my search engines in my FFs. :/
The bad:
- CalDAV sync is unusably buggy, and buggy in an inconsistent way. For example, one computer showed recurring events that I'd cancelled years ago. Todo item syncing back to the server was very hit/miss. Ultimately I just ended up disabling it and adding sidebar entries for the web UIs.
- No manifest v2 support hurts. It *really* hurts not to have #uBlockOrigin. To its credit, Vivaldi has internal support for most of the same blocklists, but so so so many websites these days have autoplay video or other crap that I really wish I could just zap away. I can edit the html in dev mode, but it's not nearly as convenient.
- FF has a hidden feature that lets you disable autoplay on videos. There is nothing nearly comparable.
- They've done a great job de-googling a lot of Chrome, but it still requires going through the settings with a fine toothed comb to disable a ton of goop.
The verdict: I'll probably go back to Librewolf until something better comes along (Come on #Servo, you can do it!). I can still disable the AI crap in FF, but I can't get uBO in Vivaldi.

@floccus Welcome! It is an amazing tool and I highly recommend it to any nutcase with multiple browsers on multiple installs like yours truly. Or anyone who doesn't like bookmark syncing through 3rd parties.
#floccus #BookmarkSyncing
I use #Floccus to sync my bookmarks with #NextCloud, and I am really losing my patience with it. Constantly, it refuses to sync and insists it'll destroy most my bookmarks. I back up, just in case, take the safety off... and no, it did not destroy a bunch of my bookmarks.
This plug in kinda sucks. I liked it because A) It synced my bookmarks with NextCloud, and B) It was browser agnostic.
But... it just never fucking works anymore.
After so many years of syncing, saving and importing bookmarks I finally spend some time on floccus. Sync it over my git repo. Worth my donation after further trial.
Amazing tool!
Thanks @yoasif @kiraso & @EuCaue ! I will deploy #floccus with #linkwarden shortly on #waterfox and possibly #zenbrowser.

@diekenbrock, that’s a very good warning, thanks.
But I’m not using Nextcloud Bookmarks as a replacement for #Pocket – I have #Wallabag for that.
I’m specificlally looking if someone used it to co-manage bookmarks.
Might blog about my (new) web workflow later – once it’s proven itself that it works for me. So far I’m impressed with #Firefox native vertical tabs and tab groups and I pair that with Wallabag and #Nextcloud Bookmarks & #Floccus.
CC @floccus
Has anyone tried using @floccus and #Nextcloud Bookmarks as collaborative bookmarking / shared knowledge base?
Here’s an example of what I have in mind:
• bookmark folder (b.f.) “home improvement”, “shops” and “funny” RW shared with family
• b.f. “geeky stuff” and w/ local hackerspace
• b.f. “books, libraries and book stores” w/ reading club
• b.f. “FOSS compliance” w/ a group of professional colleagues
