Just shared my WezTerm¹ configuration. It’s not very long and mostly just adds a few keyboard shortcuts that I find more ergonomically-pleasing, specifies light/dark themes and improves colour scheme consistency and also, if you use Helix Editor², automatically implements light/dark mode theme changes for it in line with the rest of the terminal.

@BartV @sjvn it would be possible to integrate an "#AntiGoogleDRM" that'll brick #FFmpeg if it's run on a machine with a public IP in Google's ASN and transcode all files into "This is an unlicensed Version of FFmpeg!" with an "Unregistered BandiCam" style, non-transparent overlay on top.

Tho such maliciousness would make it untrustpworthy in many eyes.

Instead, I'd recommend to setup a #bot that demands "Proof of active support subscription" and will just close the ticket if not ban the issue creator if they reopen tickets without a public #gist that shows their account-unique License & Pubkey!

Some projects already limit #BugReports & #Issues to 'subscribers only' and I think that's only fair: #FLOSS does explicitly come with no warranties whatsoever and those that demand these have to pay for them!

Het oudste brood

Brood bakken, met een methode die millennia oud is

Een van de belangrijkste opgravingen in Turkije is Çatalhöyük, dat je mag typeren als een heel groot dorp uit het Neolithicum, ergens tussen 7500 en 6400 v.Chr. Misschien mag je het, met zo’n 700 bewoners, wel een stadje noemen. De mensen woonden in vrij grote huizen, die nog geen deuren hadden, en waarin je met een ladder afdaalde.

Het aardigste is dat de diverse bewoningslagen tonen dat de mensen beter werden in de landbouw. In de jongste strata is waarneembaar dat de bewoners hun vaardigheden aan het aanscherpen waren. Soms op manieren waarvan hedendaagse boeren denken “dat klopt”, en soms op manieren waarvan je weet “dat zal niet veel hebben geholpen”, zoals wanneer ze in de graanbakken beeldjes legden van beschermgodinnen. Die zullen de muizen niet hebben weggehouden. Een kat zou dat beter hebben gedaan. Maar die talismans zijn natuurlijk ook leuk.

Een andere verbetering was dat men zich eerst aanleerde dat je graan kon pletten en vermengen met melk. Warme pap maakten de bewoners al, en ze brachten die op smaak met kruiden en zaden, maar ergens rond 6600 v.Chr. zijn ze het mengsel gaan bakken. Dat weten archeologen sinds een half jaar: toen maakten ze bekend dat de mensen van Çatalhöyük iets bakten van tarwe en/of gerst, waar ze blijkbaar erwtenzaad doorheen deden als smaakmaker. Aanwijzingen voor het gebruik van gist zijn er niet, maar ook ongedesemd brood is brood. En de opgravers van Çatalhöyük waren maar wat trots dat ze het oudste brood ter wereld in handen hadden – ouder dan het oudste gerstebrood uit Egypte.

Dat Çatalhöyükse brood leek nog niet op het onze. Het had meer van een pannenkoek, vervaardigd door het deeg te leggen op een hete steen (zie de foto hierboven). Zo ontstond iets dat leek op het brood dat in het Arabisch markouk wordt genoemd. Er zijn ook andere namen. In Libanon heb ik het weleens horen aanduiden als pain phénicien, want Libanezen zijn helemaal niet nationalistisch.

Later ontstonden echte broodovens en begon men ook gist toe te voegen. (Ik heb geen zin om uit te zoeken wanneer dit precies is gebeurd.) De hoge broodvormen die we kennen uit Pompeii, tonen dat er gist moet zijn gebruikt. Bij het gisten komt alcohol vrij, dat echter door de hitte verdampt, en dat is maar goed ook, want anders zou je tipsy worden van overmatige broodconsumptie. De islamitische geleerde Abu Roham heeft verklaard dat als brood halal is, ook kaasfondue halal moet zijn.

Enfin. Als dit blogje online gaat is het ochtend en zit u te ontbijten met een boterhammetje. Geniet ervan. Brood is een van de voedzaamste levensmiddelen die we hebben. En als u zelf aan de gang wil, is er het Historisch Bakboek Brood van Eet!Verleden.
