I have a question for #gardeners and #homesteaders out there in Mastodon.
I need suggestions on how to store my potatoes, carrots, beets and onions from harvest in August-September until Spring. None of the usual solutions work for me so we have to eat our harvest faster than we wish and we’re out of everything before Christmas (except garlic and frozen hot peppers).
I don’t have a root cellar, nor can I build one.
Don’t have a garage.
I don’t have a non-insulated area in my house. Best I have is a dark workshop but even with the heating turned off, its temperature is too high and humidity is too low.
Winters are too cold and snowy for storage under our deck to be an option (or is it?).
I detest vinegar so pickling isn’t an option.
I have blanched, vacuum-sealed and frozen carrots before, but it’s a lot of work and a lot of plastic waste.
