Was ist mit Miranda NG?
Als ich Windows benutzte mochte ich Miranda IM immer sehr gerne und laut Wikipedia kann es:
- Windows
- MUC
- OMEMO

Außerdem hab ich gerade gelesen dass Jitsi Desktop (Java-Anwendung) ein XMPP-Client sei, ich glaube den probiere ich mal aus.

Как же меня бесят эти мордоделы, #jTalk переименовать в это s. Это что, Жтолки, а не Жтолк больше? 🤦🏽

Signal ist für mich wiederum nix, weil's so richtig nur auf Android und iOS läuft, was ich nicht habe(n will). Naja, und Amazon cloud und Telefonnummer….

When I log in, I get presence events for my contacts.

Except when the contacts are offline.

How am I supposed to distinguish between a contact being unavailable and the presence being slow to come? Must I have a timeout?

I tried sending probes, but my version of #ejabberd doesn't respond for offline contacts :/

Ich meine, ernsthaft. #Signal ist auch auf eine gewisse Art zentralisiert, da hängt alles an einer Firma, die jederzeit in den Ruin geklagt werden kann. Was es braucht, sind offene Kommunikationsprotokolle, die nicht an einer einzigen Software-Klitsche hängen. Wir sind hier ja auch im #Fediverse und nicht auf #BlueSky .
Signal ist definitiv besser als #WhatsApp , aber wenn es darum geht, sicher zu sein, dann sind dezentrale offene Protokolle besser. XMPP und Matrix haben natürlich beide noch den Nachteil, daß man einen Server braucht, besser sind komplett serverlose p2p-Netze, die keinen Server mehr haben, der abgeschaltet oder gehackt werden kann. Bei Matrix und XMPP sind immer noch meine Kontaktlisten auf einem externen Server gespeichert, bei einem serverlosen System wären sie nur auf meinen Geräten.
Und wenn verschlüsselte Kommunikation ohne zentrale Datenspeicherung verboten wird, weil die Bullen und die Schnüffler alle überwachen wollen, dann kann man bei zentralisierten Diensten wie Signal leichter die Nutzung erschweren oder gar verunmöglichen als bei Diensten mit vielen Serverbetreibern wie Matrix oder Jabber, bei komplett dezentralen p2p-Netzen, bei denen jeder User selbst sein eigener Dienstbetreiber ist, ist Abschalten unmöglich. Sie konnten ja auch Kazaa ziemlich schnell plattmachen, ed2k hingegen nur langsam ausbluten, und ed2k/Kad lebt heute noch.
Wenn sichere Kommunikation illegal wird, dann sind natürlich alle, die mit entsprechender Software auf Schlaufon oder Laptop erwischt werden, erst einmal dran, müssen vermutlich Strafe zahlen und werden für die Ordnungskräfte erst richtig interessant, aber wenn sichere Kommunikation verboten wird, müssen eh alle, die weiterhin sicher kommunizieren wollen, ähnlich vorsichtig sein wie Raubkopierer. Der eine Vorteil bei p2p ist eben, daß der Staat es nicht so einfach plattmachen kann, weil es keinen Dienstbetreiber gibt, auch nicht ein paar tausend Dienstbetreiber, sondern weil jeder User sein eigener Dienstbetreiber ist. Wenn ein Schlaufon entsperrt und durchsucht wird, hat man nur die Daten, die in diesem einen Gerät gespeichert sind.

Tengo instalaciones de #ejabberd por @ejabberd y #prosody por @prosodyim. Ambos facil de instalar (paquetes de #Debian) y mantener, con muy poco mantenimiento.

La configuración de ejabberd (YAML) me gusta mas que prosody (Lua). Uso ejabberd con #PostgreSQL, prosody con "file storage".

Prosody ya tiene invitaciones, que me parece buenisimo:

What can I say? It worked — after figuring out, that we had to reduce fontsize on Android to be able to enter the phone number.

I just wish there was a good messenger

Requirements (exhaustive list):
1. Easy to sign up for for non computer touchers
2. Allows managing multiple identities on a single device
3. FOSS client (FOSS server optional but preferred)
4. E2EE
5. (Optional) Supports modern messenger features like replies, reactions, custom emoji, stickers, voice calls, etc.
There are a number of nice to haves like being self-hostable and chat history sync but I'm willing to compromise on those.

#Signal has great UX and phenomenal security but afaik fails completely at point 2
#Matrix and #Jabber / #XMPP fail point 1
#Whatsapp fails points 2 and 3
#Discord fails points 2, 3, and 4
SMS fails points 2, 3, 4, and 5
#Telegram fails point 2 and, if Soatok is to be believed, arguably 3 and 4 as well
#SimpleX looks good (I'm willing to trust its security) and is very easy to sign up for since there's no concept of an account but there's still some friction and it's dicey on point 1, also complete anonymity is often not desirable

#XMPP channels (#MUCs) work well for me. What do you miss compared to Matrix? I only use Matrix via an XMPP bridge, therefore I might miss the best parts 🙂

Btw.: If I'm not mistaken, #Jabber allows entering public channels semi-anonymously (i.e. only server and group admins see your real id, but other members don't), while Matrix does not have that option?

Signal is a non-profit, probably trustworthy, and pretty secure.

But it runs and depends 100 % on AWS and Google. A significant part of the Signal donations go into Jeff Bs pockets, while the Signal president only receives meagre 800 kUSD/a.

For me, as #EU cititizen, Signal is not the way to more #digitalSovereignty.

I suggest to migrate to decentralized and federated alternatives, such as #Jabber/#XMPP. Before DJT calls Jeff and let's him shutdown Signal.
