#LinuxJourney

I just started to add Hyprland to my Linux Notebook. That is a lot of tooling and customizing involved to get it working.

But after around 5 hours I think most stuff I do want is there and working. Now I just do search for an Conky alternative to list my system information to the background.

Last step is ricing, this will be fun without any css knowledge 😂

Had a problem after an update that would have been absolutely devastating for a normal user (no more login possible, NTFS partition no longer mountable, flatpaks gone from panel).
I am still a bit dependent on Dropbox for syncing Joplin (not so important) and Keepass databases to iOS (essential).
Next up: change of mail provider

Why are Chrome, Microsoft Word and Photoshop mentioned as programs you run on a computer here 🤔?

MS word and Photoshop (🤢) doesn't even work on Linux without specialized software like Wine.

This website is about Linux 🐧. They could've included programs like Firefox, Libreoffice and GIMP.

Update from my #LinuxJourney
I opened Bluetooth Manager on #LinuxMint and set my headset to pairing mode. After clicking "Connect" there was something, windows users (including myself) may never understand: It just works! Without any problems and analysis or resets or driver uninstalls and re-installs! Black magic!
But for real: Why not just like that, #Windows ?

Loving my so far. Plugged in a wireless Logitech keyboard on my set up, turned it on and nothing. Did that about three times, same thing, nothing. Took the batteries out of the keyboard, flipped the switch a few times, waiting several minutes between actions the whole time. Nothing. I open , search "How to use Logitech keyboard on Linux", no kidding, the keyboard started to work. I just typed all of this on it😂

My #LinuxMint timer applet tells me "Slow. Way too slow" (in German) now, when elapsed. Its stupid, but I like it.

The adventure continues. Now I clicked "Download Steam" on #steam webpage. This all still feels like a exciting experiment, wasn't able to realize yet, that #LinuxMint is alreally my legit alternative on notebook 😅

I discover daily new cool features of #LinuxMint now. Currently I'm impressed about how everything is integrated. If M$ did this, I'd fear being observed or at least all my information is collected in some of their thousand clouds. But with #Linux I kind of feel safe and must confess, this is how user friendly systems should work.

A Linux Mint sound applet shows what Mozilla Firefox is currently playing (title and author; its a public TV show stream but blurred out since its unclear if allowed to share) and provides some media player button including sound control

So. I started #Netflix #Manifest which means, for now I have everything on #LinuxMint, I also had with M$. I again was impressed, when I installed "cinnamon-timer@jake1164" and discovered that the tray applets are #JavaScript based. For now, I pause my adventure and just try to use it like a usual computer.

Thanks again for your help, especially @farandula for suggesting #Kate. Now I can sleep tight again! :)

The last time i used #archlinux was a year ago, and since then, i learned a lot about #linux. I installed outdated #AUR packages, updated my system everyday and didn't really understand how #pacman works. This time, i will take advantage of the #archwiki.
There is still quite a lot to learn, but that will never change.

lol "i've settled on a distro" lmao #linuxjourney

a tweet from me on dec 9 2019 "finally settled on a distro. squeezed windows boot and only use it to upload from garmin as linux doesn't like it. using peppermint (smiley face emoji). and to make it official, that i am now a "linux people" [sic], here is my obligatory desktop pic.

it's a picture of a rather grey looking xfce desktop with panels on top and bottom. the top panel has system tray with some system resource plugins, and a bunch of short cut icons for apps. the bottom panel is just windows i have open.a tweet from june 5th 2020 from me "about 6 months after first trying linux mint, i'm finally an arch wanker. in all seriousness my pc has never run this smoothly. i'm really impressed! possibly a rather amateur entry for (hashtag) unixporn

it's a screenshot of my awesome window manager desktop, with firefox and neofetch showing a bunch of system resources.

I wish i'd have started my #linuxjourney earlier.

30 minutes in. Chrome and #1Password work (wow, 1Password), the tablet pressure works, blender has no concept of CUDA.

Tbh, I expected it to be much worse.

I had quite the #LinuxJourney today. My dual boot with #Windows and #Fedora failed miraculously. Had to rewrite my bootloader. Switched to Fedora on a VM. Long story short. I'm a Windows/WSL user with #EndeavourOS in a VM in case I want it.
