Seeking help with linux install.
I am trying to keep Debian installed on my pc but my MSI motherboard keeps removing the boot entry from NVRAM so it doesn't show up when I reboot. So i am forced to boot to windows so that the entry is repopulated on reboot. I heard it's because MSI motherboard removes any entries that are not in the default path (/EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.efi). I tried manually creating this entry with bootctl (systemd-boot) and EFIbootmgr. But this still doesn't stop the boot entries from being removed. And once the boot to windows then reboot only the grub entry to Debian is left and not the systemd boot entry. I am trying to move it to the systemd-boot.
I want to move of windows eventually but I need the debian install to be consistent first.
What are the proper commands for bootctl and efimgr to set the correct bootloader so that it persists after each shutdown? I have the debian install on a sata SSD and windows is on the nvme drive.
I've made my decision !!
I'm jumping ship. I'm moving to #Linux, or to be more precise: to #ZorinOS
Being no stranger to addiction I never trusted my pusher: #Microsoft. [and it's mate #Google]
It took me some time ro find the courage, but the ultimate deadline is approaching, W11.
The beast of unrivaled surveillance.
There's just one tiny problem. What program to use [in Zorin OS] to edit videos.
Anyone of you Linux habitues have a suggestion.
It MUST be free, no watermarks and preferably open source. And please no learning curve.
For those who 'follow' me know that editing is a far too grande a term for what I do.
I merely butcher a longer video to rip out the bits I find relevant. Put a title in front and one at the back [acknowledging the longer YTvideo I ripped of]
I am very satisfied at the way I was doing this with a [illegal copy] of the old 'Movie Maker' by, you guessed it Microsoft. And I don't expect that to still work.
Anyone have a suggestion ????
feeling not so good rn :(
took 5 days to copy a rice (the only dotfiles they had was of an updated ver of their rice, which i didn't like)i saw that was a minimal type saying after this i would focus on studies and other stuff cause i'm doing shitty in those but now that i finished that rice, i just feel like a cheat and unhappy with my rice. haven't even started with the mako, screenlock and other stuff and my config file is just a mess
ik i should just move on but every time i look at my pc i remember this and i kinda need it for more than half of my hobbies...
sooo, any tips for me on how to cope with this? or do i just have to git gud
As my Linux notebook is really really slow if auto-cpufreq is turning down the CPU frequency I wrote a small shell script to overwrite the governor.
This works really great, sadly it's using up a lot of battery real quick. But in the performance mode the device if nearly unusable outside of the terminal as it is that slow.
Is there any tip how to change auto-cpufreg to turn up the frequency in performance mode if the load reaches 100% for a period of time?
Okay dumb Linux question. I did try to get hibernate working on my Linux notebook.
Therefor I added a resume statement to the LINUX_DEFAULT config for GRUB. Also I added the resume statement to the Kernel parameters and recreated both configs.
In theory the hibernate works but after the machine fully shuts down it starts again, restoring the state.
Any idea what could the issue? I did test it with `systemctl hibernate`
I do have a quick question to the nerd fonts https://www.nerdfonts.com/. Is there any source to get all the icon included?
Seems like my waybar and eww bar is missing some icons working previously as I changed the font for those.
For example there should be a microphone icon here but seems like the icon was not found. My guess is that they do use another representation for those icons, but I'm not sure how to get the correct ones.

There is a thing which does confuse me. Sometimes if I run 'yay' on my arch installation to update all packages entering my password does not work.
I double checked if some modifier key is active by writing it to the console and it is correct. Still I cannot enter the password correctly.

Do you know a utility tool for #archlinux with which I can review packages and remove the ones I haven't used in ages?
Can someone direct me to a reliable debian gnome with firefox download-to-usb site? I need to help my sisters switch their laptops from windows. I would create a separate installation thumbdrive for each. I am on Linux already.

I do have a Linux question.
Is there any website I could check if my special hardware like pedals, flight stick or infared camera is supported properly?
what's the *MOST* minimal x11 GUI out there besides i3?
Hi, #linux friends ^__^ Is there any (not-Ubuntu-based …) #distro that supports #NixOS-style „Oops, an update/I destroyed the system let's roll back“ out-of-the box. I know this is possible with #btrfs, #timeshift and other tools but I was wondering if there's a distro that includes this as a build-in feature (with a gui)? #FediQuestion #LinuxQuestion
Guys what do I do?
I never had a problem with a update before.
Edit: resolved :haato:
I want to auto-login into the TTY on Arch with my user, since I already entered the encryption password and “verified” that it’s me.
the Arch wiki tells me to make a /etc/systemd/system/getty@tty1.service.d/autologin.conf, but I don’t have this folder. I have a folder getty.target.wants with the default settings.
now I’m confused what to do!

Hey guys any way to control saturation?
I got a new monitor and it's good but has too saturated colors for my taste. Some adjustable HVS filler or just saturation filler app that applies to the whole screen?

Ok can anyone help me access this optical drive please?
So, eh. Does anybody know a program for Linux where you could bind keyboard presses to mouse clicks on specific screen coordinates? I want to bind W,A,S,D and such for a phone game that I scrcpy to linux...
#LinuxQuestion: I’m running #TimeShift for the first time. I’m saving the #snapshot to a USB hard drive. It’s been running for over 12 hours. It seems to be stuck because the backup isn’t getting any larger now. How long can it take to make the first snapshot?
Also, it’s impossible to kill the timeshift #rsync processes. I’ve run it several times and had to force reboot the computer to start over. I’m trying to upgrade to a newer version of #LinuxMint.
I’m struggle to decide install Arch with the automatic partition layout (only /boot and /) or make a /home partition separated. Any advice? (I have not plan to install other distros in the same disk) #linux #linuxquestion
