@CStamp Problem is that #LithiumIon batteries are virtually non-extinguishable.

• Not only do they gas out hydrofluoric acid vapour (that white cloud) but since they are a #MetalFire the only way to stop them is to wait for burnibg away everything, which will destroy not just the road surface but the tire bedding underneath, or to hope one can throw enough dry sandbags on it and let it glass itself intosome Corium-like substance that can then be cooled with water and dislocated with heavy gear.

Also to this day there are 0 recycling plants.in the entire #EU willing to take in burnt-out #Swasticar|s or similar #BEV|s!

IMHO it'll be inevitable that #Methanol #FuelCell-based #EV|s will be the future simply because:
1.#Lithium is scarce & expensive
2.#refueling will always be faster than #charging
3.#EnergyDensity of Methanol exceeds that of any #battery
4.#FussilFuel #Corporations can simply switchover pumps and flex their #EconomyOfScale and existing #Logistics to flood the market with cheap Methanol even if it has to be made 100% sustainable and without any fossil resources.
5.#EnergyStorage is another problem and #FuelCells can replace both #EmergencyPower systems running if #Diesel as well as the average #gasoline #generator.

Not to mention there needs to be #SystemChangeNotClimateChange and that necessitates way better #PublicTransport, regardless if #Trains, #Trams, #Trolleybuses or #FuelcellBuses (in that order)...

As a fmr. firefighter I can account that any #LithiumBattery fire would be left to controllably burn out when feasible because there ain't #HAZMAT suits rated for such heat exposure and #Nomex won't protect against gaseous exposures and fumes, which is why firefighters sometimes have to undress with the respirator on to not get intoxicated from the fumes in their jackets when facing a regular household fire...
