"Don't criticize your #elders. You must always respect them."

I've been preached that BS by different people in my extended family & also by people outside my family. People who tried guilt tripping me into compliance. People who protect abusive elders & not the victims.

I won't ever be guilt tripped into violating my core values - by anyone.

I'm very respectful of most elders. I am not that respectful towards elders who are abusive, use their seniority to get away with abuses, have committed serious crimes which resulted in innocent people being harmed & have zero remorse. I've never believed that all elders are deserving of equal respect from others. Elders are fallible human beings too. I will respect elders who don't hurt others for their own gains. I don't have much tolerance for repeat, unrepentant abusers of any age or background.

All three of us have faced multiple violent threats & assaults from RCMP. All three of us refused to bow down to any colonial corporate entities. All three of us lost loved ones to colonial violence. We are not built like some other women. We are women in active colonial resistance & it is a lifelong commitment. We do not have or will ever have white privileges. We respect our white comrades who have done heavy decolonization work a lot. We do not really respect anyone who always obeys any colonial masters & does not challenge them.

#SNIWWOC #FoodProject: Your food, your choice.

According to Statistics Canada (Dec 2020), approximately one in seven Canadians (14.6%) were living in a food-insecure household in May 2020. #FoodInsecurity is also a cause associated with poorer nutrition as well as a variety of physical and mental health issues.

SNIWWOC is providing a #FoodSecurity program for #LowIncome #RacializedWomen including #transgender and #TwoSpirit community members. This program is intended to offset costs of monthly #groceries, not to cover all costs.

Eligible clients will receive the decided amount of gift cards to one of the grocery stores. We are committed to supporting vulnerable women in our community, such as single mothers and newcomers who are sometimes isolated.

ELIGIBILITY
1. Women Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour, including transgender, non-binary and two-spirit community members who are 18 years old or above;

2. Must make less than the low-income cut-off line (submit the proof of income)* see the table on website.

3. Resident of Greater Victoria BC, Canada.

STEPS:
1. Fill out our Groceries Project Request form.
2. Receive an email from SNIWWOC.
3. Submit proof of income (or household income if you are married/common law). This can include: a current tax return, notice of assessment, or any benefits received from the government (ex. Disability Assistance).

**Screenshots of bank statements or accounts will not be considered a valid form of proof of income**

4. Submit proof of dependent(s). This can include: health cards, passports, birth certificate, driver's license, school registration, childcare statement, or status card.

5. Set up an in-person appointment at SNIWWOC’s Victoria BC office.

6. Fill out the feedback survey sent via email from SNIWWOC.
sniwwoc.ca/getyourgroceries-ap

Note: You can apply once every three months, while supplies last. Clients are eligible for their first round of gift cards every three months after receiving them. Clients who receive their second gift card in three months must wait another six months to be eligible for the program once again.

Example: Client A can apply in January and receive the gift card, then Client A can also apply again in April, then they would need to wait until October to be eligible for the program once again.

OUR TEAM
We are an interdisciplinary team of women dedicated to improving the health of racialized women across Canada. We are the community we serve.

Another new friend I met at the ribbon skirt workshop today. She is from Namgis First Nation. We chatted while working on our skirt patterns. A fellow creative, Aquarian weirdo 🥰
She was blown away that I've met/spent time with her cousin & also know several of her friends in Alert Bay. Her cousin owns/runs the only bannock place on Cormorant Island - Duchess Bannock and Dessert.

New friends who I met at the ribbon skirt workshop today. Mom & daughter. They're from #Eritrea - in the Horn of #Africa region. They've been in Canada for 12 years. I kept the little one entertained & played catch the plushie with her, when her Mom was working on their matching yellow ribbon skirts. The little one liked my purple ribbon skirt layout 💜
