Either the agent doesn't fully understand perforce (who does?) or our setup of perforce is so divergent from "standard" who even knows anymore...
Touring alternatives to Sourcehut for my personal repos. Partly because I hate git, partly because I know I’m abusing the binary files and repo size rules there.
#Diversion works well… but it’s totally closed and only offers a cloud tier for indie license. Not sure about what would happen in the event they’re acquired or fold. Does the indie license entitle me to any backup of my data/property??
#Perforce, the devil I know and easily self-hosted. But… closed. That hasn’t bothered me in the past and I feel that the company is possibly more viable (I’m less worried about losing stuff).
#ArkVCS, very reasonable licensing, also closed. But ultimately a hobby thing. I’m wary about hitching my wagon to it still.
#subversion, my old faithful. Tried and true. Easy to self host and free and open.
In all self-hosting cases I’m going to just run a small machine at home with tailscale to avoid dealing with internet bullshit. Backups are key then. I’m considering #tarsnap. Any others?
More #Linux progress: VCS
#Perforce has their own apt repository and the CLI tools install and work great. Not a surprise; it's common practice to host P4 depots on Linux hosts.
The GUI tools exist and fully function, so A+ there. Unfortunately they aren't in their apt repo, only as a tarball download of bins requiring fully manual install. Default (Light) theme had issues, but the dark theme is fine, and no one should ever use light themes. ;)

By far the biggest issue I've encountered with #godot so far is that it doesn't support working in a #perforce workspace.
I'm sure people here will want to reply with a FOSS rant, but the truth is to become a major #gamedev tool you need to support p4; it is what 90% of the industry uses, and for good reason.
Git is absolutely terrible at handling large/binary files (which was an intentional design decision).

Today's been one of those days where I wish we were using anything other than #perforce for version control. This thing is broken beyond belief. Working on several changelists? Sure, but don't create new files, shelving them and reverting the changelist doesn't remove the newly added file from the filesystem. Which breaks #ceedling's automatic test discovery. The work around is to rename the test_* file with some other prefix manually. It sucks.

Todays issues was digging through ~300 commits to find a hard crash due to case sentitive issue right as AssetBundles starts.
Absolutely terrible, it is a combined effort between Windows being case-insentitive, Perforce running on case-insentitive system and for AssetBundles to die from a file being renamed.
The next person who advocates that "Perforce is more user friendly than Git and better for artists." to my face will get a custard pie in response. It really isn't any different to any other VCS is terms of complexity and arguing that it is "user friendly" compared to git is just lies.
