After starting to mess around with curves in and Inkscape, I tried them out in and too, and now I’ve decided I’m definitely using them whenever I’m working with surfaces. A single-span degree-3 curve lets me make pretty much any shape with the fewest points possible and get perfectly smooth surfaces… plus there are a bunch of other perks!

Spent the weekend learning Plasticity and quite like it! Took a a little bit of time to understand the quite severe differences in approach between polygon modeling and solid modeling, but getting there!

#Beetle #Harmonia #axyridis is native to Asia, but due to its use for pest control, it established #worldwide. It is known for its high number of #color/#pattern forms, partly due to a #genetically based #polymorphism. There is seemingly genetic variability in some morphs, and colors in an individual can change slightly during its life. D. Lemic et al. (2021) used #geometricmorphometrics to detect morph #plasticity.

"The observed transition from hub-dominated to distributed architecture challenges traditional views of fixed sensory processing hierarchies while supporting emerging theories of dynamic cortical reorganization."

Hey everyone, after all this time, is finally going to roll out generation from 3D models. I’m pitching in with ideas on how to structure the file. The 2D drawing will be exported as an SVG, but it’ll be neatly organized so you can edit it with software or . That said, development won’t kick off until November. The Parasolid kernel already has these features, so it’s just a matter of figuring out how to organize the file and handle the export.

A few photos of the finished stand. The model has small tweaks to make it print cleaner and have a tighter fit, but not worth me reprinting the thing.

I printed this a few months ago but finally got around to cleaning it up and posting the model.

Thought I would take a look at - honestly, blender is simpler to get started with. The tutorials online don't match the reality of the app (things like preferences are just not there, at least in the Mac version). All in all, a waste of time.

Does phenotypic plasticity promote (Baldwin effect) or hinder (Mayr) genetic adaptation? Lambert et al. mathematically showed that when adaptive plasticity increases, the Baldwin effect increases, peaks then decreases as plasticity begins to mask selection.

🧠 New study by Lempel et al. (2025): Visual experience after eye opening aligns #feedforward inputs (L4) and #RecurrentNetworks (L2/3) in mouse #VisualCortex. This improved alignment, together with enhanced orientation discrimination, creates coherent, reliable sensory codes, revealing how experience shapes stable #cortical representations:
