Trump's hardly the first US politician to profit from his office, nor is this behaviour confined to the right; plenty of supposedly left of centre officials and legislators have turned their public office to private benefit.
What is new and disturbingly different is the sheer scale and shamelessness of the profiteering, self-dealing, and corruption here. What's worse, Trump and his sycophants promote these actions as "smart" and "patriotic".
