I read this headline, and the first thing I thought was "oh hey, I wonder what old radios they recapped and fixed! I would watch that! They have awards for that, though? 🤔 "

So, it begins...

I'm recapping a PowerMac 9500 that was given to me, buts appears DOA. Working my way from the outside areas where there are few components and practicing for the denser areas which I'll do later.

7 of 43 done.

Almost tried to install a 10000uF capacitor in place of a 1000uF capacitor.

I was only off by an order of magnitude...

What could possibly go wrong...

Today, I've started my first #recapping job of SMD caps on a Performa 475 logicboard. I've used "hot tweezers" from Reichelt.de and at least, I got them off the board. Only ~3 released their magic smoke, and I hope my room is usable again tomorrow :-)
Cleaning the board and reassambling it using tantalum caps will follow... ;-)

New video! In the second part of the series, I'm trying to resurrect the Apple Macintosh Performa 630 Power Supply I found to have lots of leaky capacitors in the previous episode.

New video! I'm starting to restore a very interesting Apple Macintosh Performa 630 in the DOS Compatible variant. It has both a 68040 Mac and an IBM compatible 486 PC in one machine. In the first episode of this series, I try to make it safe to run by replacing capacitors on the main board and in the power supply. More to come!

Finally closing up the "Cubo" #AmigaCD32. I was procrastinating this for years, happy that I can finally stop worrying about leakage on these boards. I'll tackle the remaining A600 motherboards in time, but they've already got their caps removed and were cleaned, so no hurry. #recapping

Time to begin the #recapping on one of the two #AmigaCD32 .
There is some leakage from the SMD caps here, but it seems minor for now. Two of the through hole caps are bulging though, and one seems to be expelling its contents from the top.

Photo from above of a CD32 motherboard still in the case, but with the shielding removed. The board seems to be relatively clean, but two caps near the expansion port are bulging.

Your turn now.

Oh yeah! It was really a busted via!
#gamegear #repair and #recapping in one evening.
I have a few more, one with a cracked screen. Might end up putting a new lcd in there.

GameGear sitting on a pile of boxes, turned on, and running Sonic 2.
The image is now decent

Finished the #recapping for this #gamegear ... The situation improved: turns on and the games start now, also audio seems good.
But the image is extremely washed out. Brightness knob seems to do its job, but just goes from blackish to milky white (with a few darker vertical bars on the left).

You can make out there is something on the screen when you notice movement, but it's unusable.
Corrosion did not seem too nasty on this one, but I'm wondering if it killed one or more vias.
Or could be a dead screen, can't think of many ways to test though.
Any expert in GameGear #repairs around?
