Lots of people online nowadays seem to think the Nintendo 64 was a weird and/or janky console. Yeah, it some ways it was, given the Playstation coming out and practically eating it's lunch.
But, here's the deal. At the time, the Playstation had very few games that supported more than 2 players. What did the N64 have? It had Mario Kart, Star Fox, Goldeneye and countless other 4 player games that revolutionized living room friend get togethers.
At the same time, the N64 also revolutionized the 3D space with Mario 64, the legendary launch title, now sadly taken for granted.
Playstation, meanwhile revolutionized genres with hits like Final Fantasy 7, Wipeout, Tekken 3 and Metal Gear Solid.
It was amazing to experience either system, really.
My point is that more attention to should be paid to when things happen.
You don't expect people in the 80's to all have had pocket cellphones, just like you wouldn't expect people in 2026 or even 5 years earlier to lug around a Apple II with a CRT monitor.
In any case, lets enjoy history and retrogaming, whether you were alive to see it or not.
Also in my opinion, every game deserves a chance, but, what should be prioritized is the rights of the players to own the games they desire, and to be able to play it offline if it has an ability to do so. Gamers, book aficionados and music lovers should unite to reassert that ownership is important in this day and age. If you don't own what you buy, you're just renting it till they turn off the lights. If it's "in the cloud", it's actually on someone else's computer, and again, they can just turn it off whenever.
Well, that's a rant for another day, but yeah, haha.
