Zeit meine #LaTeX Skills von vor 10 Jahren für ein Conference paper aufzufrischen. 2015 habe ich #TexLive + #Texstudio für wissentschaftliches Schreiben im Ingenieursbereich benutzt (also inkl Formeln + Plots). . Ist das immer noch eine vernünftige Kombination in 2025, (leider) unter #Windows? Wie schaut es mit dem #Latex Workshop Plugin für #VSCode aus, sollte ich mir das anschauen? Gab es sonst noch was im Bezug auf IDEs oder Distos in den letzten 10 Jahren, was ich mir anschauen sollte?

Time to revive my rusty #LaTeX skills from 10 years ago for a small conference paper. In 2015 I used #TexLive + #Texstudio for scientific writing in the engineering field (so some equations, some plots).
Is that still the way to go in 2025 (on #Windows unfortunately)? What about the #LaTeX Workshop Plugin for #VSCode, is it worth a look? Any other development wrt to IDEs or distributions in the last 10 years I should have a look at?

Wow. I am impressed by selnolig.sty a #texlive package that deals with ligatures. Did not know how many ligatures are possible in principle.
I am quite good in spotting misplaced ligatures in German, but some effects in English are rather minimal. Do you see them?
One needs morphology to do this package.
Now that we switched to #lualatex, we can use it. \o/
Aus Gründen, die ich nicht verstehe, braucht lualatex (und xelatex) sehr lange, um das Inhaltsverzeichnis zu kompilieren. Ich habe jetzt einen Trick gefunden, um die Kompilationszeit zu halbieren: Ich lösche einfach vor dem Durchlauf das Inhaltverzeichnis. Das brauche ich eh nicht für's Schreiben:
rm check-hpsg-lehrbuch.toc ; lualatex check-hpsg-lehrbuch
Statt 33 Sekunden nur noch 15 Sekunden!
Bei den check-Dateien binde ich immer nur ein Kapitel ein. Das toc enthält aber das Inhaltsverzeichnis für das ganze Buch. 19 Kapitel.

These: Autor*innen, die mit LaTeX arbeiten schreiben die besseren Bücher/Artikel.
Grund 1: Man liest den Abschnitt nach dem Kompilieren noch einmal, weil man das Ergebnis des texens überprüfen muss.
Grund 2: Man kriegt immer Dopamin-Kicks, wenn das Kompilieren durchläuft und man sich über das Ergebnis freuen kann. Da schreibt man vor Freude gleich einfach weiter, während OpenOffice-Autor*innen irgendwann die Kraft verlässt.

1/ So, wenn Ihr mal wissen wollt, was ich so mache, dann könnt Ihr hier die neue Auflage meines HPSG-Lehrbuches lesen. Ich habe das 2006 beim Stauffenburg-Verlag veröffentlicht, durfte den Text aber auf meiner Web-Seite haben. Nun war Frau Narr so freundlich, mir die Rechte zurückzugeben und ich arbeite an einer neuen Auflage. Die letzte und dritte Auflage ist von 2013. Seit dem hat sich viel getan, so dass ein bisschen Arbeit nötig ist.
Ich passe die Rechtschreibung an neue Rechtschreibung an und ersetze Beispiele durch Beispiele, die nicht überholte Stereotype verfestigen. Das war in den alten Auflagen nicht schlimm, aber es gibt Studien, dass in linguistischen Beispielen mehr männliche Personen in Agens-Rollen vorkommen usw. Jetzt gibt es also Beispiele mit geschlechtsneutralen Namen und auch bisher nicht benutzte Namen wie Kirby, die non-binäre Menschen verwenden.
Bei den ganzen Änderungen sind mir sicher Fehler unterlaufen. Beispiele neu, Erklärung alt u.ä. Also, wenn Euch was auffällt, freue ich mich über Kommentare.

Some #TeXLive 2025 pretest news: The IoT TeX Live Images published yesterday now include one fundamental change. The Default #PDF version now finally has been changed to 1.7. (was 1.5 before).
I really appreciate that change as it makes I don't have to explain too much why I add a that change within the documents to allow inclusion of PDF 1.7 images.
The pretest für #TeXLive 2025 has started!
In case you want to help finding bugs before the release have a look at https://www.tug.org/texlive/pretest.html
You can also install it additionally to your normal #TeX environment and fall back in case you face any issues. But it's always better to find issues as early as possible.
Of course we are building docker images for the pretest on the #IslandOfTeX again. I'll add more information as soon as they are published.
