Just received another issue of the free German magazine 'fluter', which is aimed at teens like my son. This time, it's all about apprenticeships and learning a craft. The editor specifically mentions that many magazines like theirs could be written by AI soon. But AI won't be able to restore a valuable work of art or be a good chiropodist (at least not yet!).

It's an interesting read and a sign of the times.

And if you're wondering what's happening to the poor bloke's head on the cover: he's getting a traditional ear piercing with what looks like an old nail. 😬

Why? In Germany and other European countries, apprentices used to walk from town to town to learn their trade. (This journey was called "die Waltz".)

Before they set off, they'd get a gold earring, so they'd always have money in case of emergencies (or for their own funeral).

The magazine is free to download. Have a look!

When asked what their dream job would be, most people express they want to lay in bed all day, watch sitcoms and mindlessly click through Outlook emails, every day.

Here is my #introduction. I am a clinical psychologist that went back to academia and turned professor. My research is in the intersection between clinical, social and work #psychology. Three major topics for the time being: #musicianshealth, #thefutureofwork and #socialanxiety.

I am fond of experimenting with #podcasts #flippedclassroom, #experientiallearning and #simulation in my classes.

One of the most intellectually dishonest and downright stupid comments musk has ever made. On remote work:
"Get off the goddamn moral high horse with the work-from-home bullshit,” Musk said, “because they’re asking everyone else to not work from home while they do.

that while there are manual tasks that can be replaced by #AI , #chatbots #robots and #machinelearning, I disagree that teachers are totally replaceable; why - because engagement, encouragement, motivation, inspiring curiosity - plus face-to-face learning (relatability) and passion cannot be replicated.

It is coming whether we like it or not - like calculators we must learn how to harness it. I believe It will be another TOOL for us. But this is another conversation about #thefutureofwork ☺️

@kurtcagle can you imagine, for instance, a decentralized platform for local communities to deliver food? Restaurant owners and delivery folks wouldn't need to make a few ones rich. Gain gain to everyone. #TheFutureOfWork

I think Mastodon is going to have a profound impact upon society. Federated, decentralized networks (at the social as well as technical level) may very well become the platform upon which a new kind of business model emerges, one where you don't work for a company so much as for your localized graph of interconnections. You're seeing this model emerge from many different directions - federated privacy, file sharing, community building ... why not work?
