Steep mountains - that dominate landscape - are of origin. Dark layers of alternate with the softer layers of reddish - stone made up of volcanic ashes.

These steep mountainsides are called (rocky wall). At the base a collection of broken rock fragments - called - can quite often be found.

Interbedded argillaceous & tuffaceous #sediments

These photos are of #Cambridge #Argillite, exposed above the #Squantum Member of the #Roxbury Conglomerate (#Neoproterozoic). Prior to the 1970s or so, the Squantum Member was interpreted as #glacial sediments; it's now broadly interpreted as debris flows, with the Cambridge being distal turbidites overlying it. I lead a field trip here for #UMassBoston. See captions.

Differential weathering of volcanic tuff at The Pinnacles area at Crater Lake. Mazama Ash deposits hundreds of meters in thickness have slightly different secondary mineralization and some have cap stones atop the spires that stand in relief…slightly shielding the weakly altered tuff below them.

Although an apron of ash deposits flank the volcano in all directions, this is the only place such deposits have formed in such dramatic display.

He played and toured with Hi Records stablemate Bill Black's Combo and started a solo career with his record "Tuff" in 1961, using the Black combo as his backing group. "Tuff" hit #17 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1962, and the follow-up single "Blues (Stay Away from Me)" hit #36 that same year.

Prospect, Oregon.Outcrop of #Palagonite #tuff soil shows dark brown where moist, brownish yellow where dry. Small dry land shrubs fit the surface below outcrop which is at the fringe of a volcanic vent.

Palagonite represents violent interaction between magma and surface or ground water which quenches the magma instantaneously.  Soils developed from this material used extensively in the Bonanza, Oregon area for agriculture.Outcrop of deep soil profile developed in yellowish tan colored #tuff.
