#Doorsday is here! 🚪

I live in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, but my company is based in Bavaria (and so is my employment contract). This means I have an unexpected holiday today (Corpus Christi), because I get to enjoy the Bavarian ones (of all 16 German states, Bavaria has the most public holidays, hehehe 😌)!
Fun fact: The city of Augsburg has a unique additional holiday that is limited to the city area! However, in my company, only the employees who are based in Augsburg, get the day off.

To celebrate my lazy day, today's #door is from #Augsburg Town Hall, and I love the wooden ornaments here! They are so humble yet very artistic.
The Town Hall itself is one of the most significant secular #Renaissance buildings north of the Alps. It was designed and built by Master Builder Elias Holl in 1615–1624. The Town Hall is most famous for its Golden Hall ("Goldener Saal"), but it's undergoing renovations and is mostly closed until 2026. A grand, symmetrical close-up captures the ornate entrance of a historic building, Augsburg Town Hall, in a vertical composition. A large, dark wooden double door with a radiating star pattern on each panel is framed by two substantial fluted marble columns with ornate capitals. Above the door, an arched transom features intricate wrought-iron decoration, including what appears to be a pineapple and other motifs. The columns support a projecting balcony with a balustrade, and directly above the door, an inscription carved into stone reads "PUBLICO CONSILIO PUBLICO SALUTI". Two arched windows with decorative grilles flank the entrance. The building's light-coloured facade shows multiple upper windows with dark frames and simple balconies.

Die verrostete Tür führt zu einer alten Flak-Stellung auf dem Letzenberg südlich von Heidelberg. Ende des 2. Weltkriegs wurden von hier aus anrückende US-Truppen durch die Wehrmacht angegriffen.

An ornate, arched, dark grey wrought-iron door is set within a lighter grey stone archway, framed by brickwork. The stone archway is intricately carved with a shell motif on either side of the base, and a textured, rounded pattern along the arch. The top of the archway features a decorative rectangular keystone. The wrought-iron door itself has elaborate scrolling patterns and a glass pane at the top. The building's red brick wall is visible around the archway, and a dark, abstract metal sculpture is affixed to the brickwork in the top right corner. Three stone steps lead up to the door.

Bold colours for a humble and unique housing complex – welcome to this week's #Doorsday!

This #door is one of the entrances of the #Fuggerei in #Augsburg. It is a walled public housing complex with 67 houses (containing 140 apartments in total) that was founded by Jakob Fugger the Rich in 1516 as a place for needy citizens. You need to be a citizen of Augsburg, of the Catholic faith, and have become indigent without debt in order to qualify for one of the Fuggerei housing units. If you tick all the boxes, you still pay only 1 Rhenish gulden rent per month (equivalent to €0.88) like in the good old times. Well, plus utilities (around €85/month in 2013), and you have to make three prayers a day for the current owners. The gates are locked at night and the 150 residents have to pay the watchman a small fee if they return later than 10pm.
The Fuggerei was destroyed twice (Thirty Year's War + WWII), but always restored. Today, you can visit the complex and its museum, the entrance fee goes towards the upkeep. A charitable trust, established by the wealthy founder in 1520, supports the project and is carefully managed by the #Fugger family to this day.

Auf dem Bild ist eine alte Holztür, die in eine weiße, verputzte Steinmauer eingelassen ist, zu sehen. Die Tür hat eine spitzbogige Form, wie man sie häufig bei historischen Gebäuden wie Kirchen oder mittelalterlichen Bauwerken findet. Sie besteht aus senkrechten Holzbohlen und ist mit dekorativen schmiedeeisernen Beschlägen versehen. Auffällig sind zwei Hufeisen, die vermutlich als Glückssymbole dienen, sowie ein eiserner Türklopfer in Ringform. Die Tür wirkt rustikal und historisch, und gehört zu einer Kirche.
