I know I'm kind of a constant state of stream-of-conciousness here due to what society collectively calls my mental impairments, but damn do I miss working professionally with Linux customer support.

If I can't find something by the end of the month, and if unemployment doesn't kick in in time, I'll have to start selling most of what I own, if not my condo.

Imagine a life where you have no job to go to, no colleagues, no affiliation with any organisation, nobody who cares if you get up in the morning or get dressed, nobody who notices whether you actually work or not. That's what my 31-year career as a solo #Humanities scholar has mostly been like when I was *not* unemployed. So I gotta say, I was uniquely prepared to be actually #unemployed.

Yesterday my company did mass layoffs — a "RIF" due to Trump's tariffs. The company is a startup, previously on track to break even this summer and turn a profit by the fall. The tariffs killed all our plans and then the investors pulled out due to the uncertainty, even with the "pause" on tariffs.

I'm out of a job but at least there's a silver lining - one of the original investors is apparently a big MAGA guy and is now left holding the bag. I'll take my meager 2 week severance with a side of schadenfreude.

Data is not 100% accurate (perhaps, 80% accurate haha), but I like it still.

Under the table, there are a few pie charts showcasing applications by position (mostly "Software Engineer"), by status (most applications are either "ghosted" or "rejected" with about 1/3 still "pending")

I just want everyone to understand that is not actively job hunting just how bad the overall job market is right now. Can you tell that I was ghosted yet again, from a situation that I have no control over?

As of this evening I am now #unemployed. (Contract ran out.)

There is a small chance that I might come back to TU/e, but that depends on funding and that doesn’t look great right now.
