El 6 de diciembre de 1988, Verbatim presenta su disquete óptico de 3.5”, TMO System 35/60. Un gran salto si consideramos que en los 70s, el disquete era de 8” y guardaba solo 100 Kb. A finales de los 70s llegó el disquete de 5.25” con 400 Kb. Para los 80s el almacenamiento era de 760 Kb en un disco de 3.5” hasta alcanzar 1.44 Mb

For some time in the early 90s, included in select 10-packs of Verbatim floppy disks, there was an 11th disk containing a few games taken from Microsoft's Entertainment Pack for Windows. Once part of a simple promo campaign, these disks have turned into sought-after collectibles for fans of classic "WEP" games.

I've had disk images of these samplers for a while now, both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, but only today I realized, they were also released with 5.25 inch disks. I really love these bigger diskettes, so I think this is awesome!

I could even find a working disk image on the Internet Archive. Have fun!

Después de leer tantas chorradas sobre la durabilidad de los soportes ópticos decidí comprobar si el CD-R #Verbatim Crystal #AZO 48x en el que grabé lo que programé para el TR de bachillerato aún es legible veinte (20) años después.

Y la respuesta es sí. El CD-R es legible en la regrabadora de #Bluray.

Chúpate esa, memoria flash de los cojones.

Dicho esto, voy a aprovechar para hacer una copia de seguridad. Porque copias sólo tengo esta. La otra debería estar en el instituto en el que estudié o algún repositorio interno del departamento de educación.

Found this at the back of a shelf. Damn, I miss the dark blue on the original AZO cd-r's. And even before that, those gold, green, and even black (taiyo yuden) discs. Thay was the stuff of legends.

Nowadays it's like 99% of the brands belong to just two taiwanese companies, and whatever you buy is the same "puke brown-grey" cd-r. If china invades Taiwan, we are going to be so fucked.

There’s a hidden Google search setting that makes searches more precise

Turn on #verbatim #mode in Google searches

On the search results page, look for a menu that says Tools. It may be on the far right side of the screen.
• On desktop, look on the far right side of the page, to the right of any buttons suggesting related searches or different categories of search (images, shopping, etc.).
• On mobile, underneath the search box you’ll see those “images, shopping…” categories. Put your finger on those words and swipe to the left; at the end of the row, on the far right, you’ll see Search tools.
• After tapping Tools or Search tools, you’ll see a drop-down labeled All results. Click or tap on this, and you’ll see the option Verbatim.

I am super excited to load it up, downloaded compatible restore disc images from #Internet Archive. Unfortunately, some old blank #Verbatim discs I have are not recognized in #Finder in #macOS Monterrey. I was able to use a #Maxell blank disc I have to burn disc 1, but need disc 2 to finish up the restore.

Brenne seit Freitag M-Disks (Bluray). Allgemein mag ich das ja, aber dass die Dinger 10€+ Pro Stück kosten und einige dann mit "schwerwiegendem Fehler" einfach aussteigen ist, öhm. Ungut?

Crap. A few years back (JUST pre-pandemic) I bought a whole card of #Verbatim #USB sticks from CostCo. OK OK buying hardware at CostCo was perhaps not the wisest choice - but this is mostly a PSA to say that Every Single One of them (There wer like 15 or something in the pack) has failed.

Not just gotten flaky, but DEAD. AS A DOORNAIL.

I won't be buying Verbatim USB sticks again!

At some point in the early 90s, Verbatim would give away free Microsoft games with every pack of 1.44MB floppy disks. I was always a fan of the "Windows Entertainment Pack" and these disks are fun collector's items indeed!
