I'm not sure what the secret sauce Valve pours into the Steam Deck is. Wether it's just something they specifically do with SteamOS, or it's the fact they control the hardware and software together... But playing HyTale on the Steam Deck it's rock solid stable.
In contrast, I've had it be crashy on Fedora 43, and my partner has had a similar experience on Garuda Linux (Arch based)
Whatever Valve is doing, it's working very well.
Performance on the Steam Deck is really good as well. With settings on Epic I was getting between 40 and 60 FPS, and for sure if you set your settings a little lower you would get better than that.
Just in case anyone else is like me and likes playing games on your Steam Deck, Hytale works great on there. And getting it to work is super easy.
Go into desktop mode and download the installer from Hytale.com Then just install it as normal.
Log in and make sure you're able to get into game. Then close it out and open Steam.
In Steam, click on “Add a game" in the lower left hand corner of the main Steam window.
Add the Hytale Launcher.
Then go back into gameing mode.
Select Hytale, but don't launch it yet. Go into your controller settings and choose a controller layout. I use Drew's from the Custom Community Layouts, it gives a very Minecraft feel.
Now just hit play and you're ready to go!
