You’ll remember that when you visit a museum or attraction in the US, they’ll often ask for your #ZIPcode - that gives them a simple way to model where their visitors are coming from, so that they can use that to focus their marketing dollars. I have noticed that the newest (US) postal code format of 5+4 carries encoded within it a lot of information such that I no longer write a "complete" return address. I use number+street and 5+4 postal code only. I have never really tested that this is complete, but this guy has.
