So the #Amcrest IP2M-841 cam is viewable/recordable through Shinobi β
However, neither the PTZ controls nor audio are exposed over #RTSP π
So I have a stationary cam with no audio. Thatβsβ¦ fine, I guess. π
So... the #Amcrest #security cam I bought to tinker with only exposes the substream to #RTSP, not the main live stream. #Shinobi says the "substream is an on-demand method of viewing the live stream", meaning it can't record/monitor the feed unless I leave the feed open in a browser 24/7.
How in the ever living fuck would I know that ahead of time?
Bought a cheap #Amcrest #RTSP cam to trial on #Shinobi. I can open the rtsp stream in #VLCplayer, but I must be configuring something wrong in Shinobi because it just shows me a black screen π€
Guess Iβm troubleshooting tomorrow.
#security
Also I know way too many network IP addresses by heart now π
Fuuuuck that. I was already looking for a way out because of #FuckAmazon #FuckBezos #BoycottBezos & because #Ring is DOUBLING its service fee, but this is the nail in the coffin.
Any recs for privacy-focused #security cams/systems? Was eyeing maybe some #Amcrest cams w/ local #NVR & #Shinobi but def not set on anything yet. Solar is a plus. Out of the box would be great but I know that often comes with a sacrifice to #privacy.

#FrigateNVR is officially up and running on my home network! I started with a single AMCREST Turret Camera to test things out, and for just $60, itβs performing surprisingly well.
Next steps? Adding three more cameras around the house for full coverage. Iβm also considering testing out their doorbell camera to see if it supports RTSP as it would be a great addition to the setup and will allow me to add it to Frigate as well.
I also need to invest in the Google Coral TPU to help take the detection load off the CPU of the HP Mini I am running this setup on.
Loving how this is shaping up so far.
A little fun on the roof mounting the webcam! This is the south facing camera. There will be two more, for northwest and northeast. They'll come in a little while. Beware, attached video features extreme me-closeups. lol.

Not sure who needs to know this, but Amcrest cameras designed for their "Smart Home" app listen for UDP multicast on 255.255.255.255 port 28591. If you have one on a different subnet than your phone/tablet, relay for that and you'll connect to it locally instead of through their shitbox cloud. This appears to be the only way to make it do so.
Cannot figure out how to pull an image from an #Amcrest security camera. I can open the url http://foo/cgi-bin/snapshot.cgi?1 in a browser. But, when I use fetch the buffer is empty. I can fetch jpg/png images from different sources, just not the Amcrest. This is driving me bonkers.
Setting up "smart home" devices in 2023 is such a broken system. Most devices still only support 2.4GHz, which makes getting them online an exercise in tech voodoo.
My most recent #HomeAssistant automation is reading motion detection events from the doorbell and triggering the porch light.
I've got an #Amcrest 410, and am using a patched version of https://github.com/dchesterton/amcrest2mqtt to scrape events from the camera and write them to MQTT. I put the patched docker image on dockerhub at https://hub.docker.com/repository/docker/unixorn/ha-mqtt-discoverable
