Been experimenting with on the @radxa Rock 5T, leveraging the RK3588 NPU — and it just works. 😃

Real-time object detection with super low CPU usage. 🚀

#frigatenvr is not quite sure if it spotted a person or a monster.

I may have ordered a second Coral USB accelerator while talking with a coworker in the office, with the excuse of "better get it before the tariffs kick in". Mostly for use with #FrigateNVR even though I'm still waiting for the doorbell camera I want to come back in stock... (As my Nest reports *again* it's been offline for 10 minutes...)

Finally (!!) learning #Docker stuff. My 2012-2023 job wasn't really amenable. Neither is my current role, but it's used more by the people I deal with. That I found a personal project that uses it (#FrigateNVR or #Frigate) means I immediately benefit, and can apply it at work, too...

The major difference is the NPU in this EIC7700X chip is much more powerful than the Coral TPU. It's NPU has the same TOPS as the latest AI hat for Raspberry Pi 5, but unlike the Raspberry Pi 5, it also has H.264 and H.265 video transcoding. The larger form factor might be a downside, but maybe not if expanded storage or reusing old hardware is a priority. #milkv #riscv #FrigateNVR

The Milk-V Megrez might be a great board to run Frigate NVR on. #riscv #FrigateNVR #milkv

I recently purchased an Intel N100 mini PC with a Coral TPU. Its performance with Frigate has been fantastic, but this might be better.

#FrigateNVR is officially up and running on my home network! I started with a single AMCREST Turret Camera to test things out, and for just $60, it’s performing surprisingly well.

Next steps? Adding three more cameras around the house for full coverage. I’m also considering testing out their doorbell camera to see if it supports RTSP as it would be a great addition to the setup and will allow me to add it to Frigate as well.

I also need to invest in the Google Coral TPU to help take the detection load off the CPU of the HP Mini I am running this setup on.

Loving how this is shaping up so far.

I am really happy with #frigateNVR and the coral AI tpu for object detection, there are very view wrong detections, it uses way less cpu/gpu than agent dvr and also fires mqtt events to #HomeAssistant to ask cats not to poop in my lawn. I guess some AI is not half bad

Ran up some services updates and it seems there have been some pretty big ones. HomeAssistant seems to have come with a big database migration. Frigate NVR has a new web interface.

Might have to keep an eye on the Frigate storage. They weren’t too clear on if the storage still follows lifecycle on the media that no longer shows because it’s not part of the new interface.

Finally spent some time fine-tuning #FrigateNVR events with a #Coral USB stick this week...

Either my dog is a shapeshifter or I have some model training to work on.

I fell down a rabbit hole and I now have a <15W micro server running and via - *with* GPU acceleration for transcoding and object detection. Whole thing runs at 25% CPU usage (on a cheap N95 NUC-alike).

Screenshot of Home Assistant on Android showing HA CPU and memory at 3 and 16 percent respectively, with Frigate NVR running 5 FPS detection with an average inference time of 16ms.

@joconor I'll have to get something written up :)

I started with Microk8s but had issues with nodes dropping (I guess it was a known issue at the time.) Running #k3s and it's been rock solid. #Ubuntu 22.04, #k3s, nfs provisioner for storage (except the master nodes have ssds.)

3 of the nodes have USB ssds, 1 node has a Google Coral TPU for #FrigateNVR , and the last node has a USB SDR for doing monitoring of my power and gas lines for my #HomeAssistant system

So, I created a #Gitcoin bounty today for anyone interested in getting paid 0.1 ETH for open source work. Let's see how this goes. #kubernetes #helm #truenas #frigatenvr gitcoin.co/issue/launch-gmbh/a
