The #UK government has unveiled a #maritime #decarbonisation strategy aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050. The plan includes the use of future fuels and shipping ‘chargeports’ to reduce #emissions, starting with the most polluting vessels. Targets are set for a 30% emissions reduction by 2030, 80% by 2040, and zero by 2050. The strategy also incorporates clean technologies like hydrogen and electric vessels. The government is investing in green technologies and fuels, supporting UK #manufacturing and creating skilled jobs, particularly in coastal communities. UK ports are investing in new technologies to support decarbonisation, including renewable shore power. The plan also includes the UK Emissions Trading Scheme for larger vessels. The maritime sector is set to play a significant role in the UK’s green energy transition. The UK is pushing for similar global targets at the International Maritime Organization’s meeting in April.
