The rest of the world probably knows this, but for our #USAnian friends, the single most offensive thing about President Felon's actions in violating our trade agreements with the USA -- trade agreements which *he* signed -- is this little addition:

"We're going to violate our signed trade agreement, which has the force of law in both our countries, and you're just going to sit there and take it. You can't retaliate in kind or we'll get mad."
*That* is the American "exceptionalism" that the rest of the world hates. The sheer hubris that leads anyone to expect that edict to just be obeyed because We're American is the reason for the world's contempt.
Individual Americans can be, and frequently are, lovely people. But something happens in the aggregate that makes you absolutely insufferable at times. This is one of those times.

Every now and then some politician, historian, or run-of-the-mill pundit will talk about American Exceptionalism. Ronald Reagan referred to the US as the "shining city upon a hillā, a quote from John Winthrop.
Iāve read quite a lot of US and world history, and biographies of early American leaders. We have very little to be proud of in this country. We had a chance in November to do something exceptional, something to be proud of, and failed miserably.
Our exceptionalism does exist. We are exceptionally racist. We are exceptionally selfish and greedy. And, we are exceptionally stupid.
On this day, when we should be reflecting on the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, we witness everything bad about the United States.
I am truly ashamed of this, my, country.
