When I recently installed #FreeBSD 14.2 on the "new" #Thinkpad T15 Gen1 for my mother, I was first excited to see the installer load #iwlwifi. And later disappointed it's *still* restricted to 802.11g.
But configuring #lagg in #failover mode over lan and #wifi is an awesome feature, and as this machine will be operated almost 100% of time in a docking station connected via 1000-BaseT, its fine for now. Still hoping to see newer wifi standards supported ... I see there's work going on from bugzilla and other sources.
@blog #Homeoffice bei #Internetausfall ist misslich. Ich konnte letztens auch das erste Mal den #Failover meiner #Dreammachine (erfolgreich) testen. Leider habe ich die Möglichkeit nur noch vier Monate, wie sich die Verträge für #Kabel und #Glasfaser überlappen. Sonst ist mir das doch zu kostspielig.

Question: if you have two #mikrotik #switches with #VLAN enabled (CRS317-1G-16S+RM) and you want to connect them via a #crosslink (sfpplus-16), to have a #failover switch (Debian uses tagged VLAN via bond0 with active-backup) and it works only, if you don't have VLAN at all, what can be the issue ? It works only if all Hosts have the active NIC on the same switch. If Host 1 has active on Switch 1 and Host 2 on Switch 2, network stops between them. Btw: MLAG is broken on #mikrotik since years.

My DSL based internet access has been unreliable for weeks now and the provider can’t find the problem or provide me with a permanent solution. 3-5 connection drops every day and it takes 5-10 minutes to reestablish connectivity. A major problem for someone, working entirely from home.
I now got myself an “UnFi LTE Backup Pro” and a mobile data plan and added that to my dream machine powered network.
Little bit expensive, but it remediates the problem. The Unify LTE Pro is PoE powered and has decent data rates at my location. In the case of an internet outage, I need to reestablish VPN and SSH connections but other than that, it just works and I can quickly continue my work.

Nothing tests system redundancies like an actual disaster
I bought the unit on Thursday and set it up on Friday, specifically testing the #LoadBalancing and #failover features.
Hells bells, Margaret, it works as advertised.
Not only does it work, but it is crazy loaded with features. Like, to a point where I’m still not sure why this thing is so cheap?
So now, my network is functioning with a pretty nifty router handling my primary and backup Internet connections. And more importantly, ready to failover as soon as the primary goes offline.

Ich selbst nutze #pfSense seit Jahren produktiv inklusive transparenter #Failover & #Fallback - Setups samt #VPN-Tunneling um unterbrechungsfreie Anbindungen zu ermöglichen...
Für #WLAN nutz' ich hingegen #Ubiquiti #UniFi weil's effizient und skalierbar ist.
Und bei beidem braucht mensch kein #CCNA oder Equivalent um Zeug einzurichten!
