EDIT: SOLVED - my fault entirely - not a problem with update.
I now know more than I ever wanted to about apache error logs.
Thanks to those who offered suggestions or boosted.
Now back to teaching myself PHP - without so may errors! 🤦‍♀️

Looking for help from linux mint gurus - an update ate my disk!

I just allowed update manager to update ghostscript and now I'm getting a warning that I have 0 space left in my root file system.
My /bin directory seems to contain recursive X11 folders. I'm not sure how many because I'm worried about messing with it in case I cause more problems.

I'd appreciate simple suggestions about the best way to solve this. I'm ok with using synaptic and even the terminal (if I really have to). But if you're going to ask me to delete random file please explain why.
I've been using Linux for years but I don't consider myself an expert.

I'm running Linux mint 21.3 cinnamon on an AMD Athlon with a 500GB HDD.

Today I removed protection from 16k PDFs. All these files represent the BCP for a document management system.

In a few days the BCP is needed for real and a few legacy thin clients in production (and that cannot be updated for the time being) cannot manage PDFs with protections (like comments or printing)... so... since the files are however read-only and that the thin clients are not connected to printers... the most easy thing to do was to remove the protections in order to restore the compatibility.

#Ghostscript handles this kind of use case pretty well, even if I needed to open the files three times in the worst case scenario. The first time to check if it was protected or not, the second time to remove the protection, and the last time to check if the removal succeeded. In case of errors I needed to not overwrite the original file to manually check it later... but luckily everything went fine.
Using a single-threaded #Powershell script it took ~7 hours to run.

Probably, I could reduce this by a huge amount if I try to parallelize the file scanning... That would be my first! Wish me good luck for tomorrow!

Wrote a little #bash script to convert multi page #PDF into monochrome magenta-only PDF. I need this, because the CMY toner sets for my #printer are far cheaper that the individual colors. And I am piling magenta right now. Seems I like to #print more blueish-greenish-yellowish stuff normally. But now this serious problem will be solved in some months!
