#makeShitMonday, #baking edition...

Tried a new whole-wheat-crust recipe for my ongoing crostata experiments tonight. Did not compare it to my previous recipe, which I already overloaded with fruit as a matter of course, to see how much dough it made. And I had all the strawberries macerated already, so...

(Pre-baking, there's solidly 4" of strawberries mounded up in that crust - it was hard to get a truly representative picture of this ridiculousness.🍓)

I wasn't sure whether the crostata walls could retain structural integrity if they're that short. But hey, anything worth doing is worth overdoing, right? 😇

As it turned out, they utterly could not... so I transferred it to a casserole dish, and I'm calling it an upside-down strawberry sonker. 😂 #NCeats #IYKYK Still delicious!

Well that was interesting...

I accidentally made a tea concentrate, and it was actually pretty good. Wellll… it was drinkable. ^__^

About a year ago, my sister shipped me a couple bags of her favorite loose tea, and I've kept it in mason jars to enjoy gradually while remaining pretty fresh (the tea, not myself). I hadn't made it in a while, so I made some the other day and rather enjoyed it (with a bit of #stevia for sweetness). I made a second batch to enjoy and… promptly forgot it (#adhd says hello! XD

So, I did what all good #tea enthusiasts forswear: I nuked it.

I don't remember the exact reasoning, but I decided I actually wanted to boil it down a bit in the microwave so I could add hot water to it and enjoy it later. So I initially nuked it for six minutes and it boiled down half way. I'm not sure what I was thinking, but I guess I thought I'd boil it down another half-way with six more minutes of nuking. No, it boiled down to a few very dark drops of liquid at the bottom of the cup.

So, I transferred it to a small plastic cup (probably a mistake) and put it in the fridge.

That was all several days ago, probably a week ago.

Today, I go look in the fridge, and the tea concentrate is no longer a liquid. It is a polymer. XD

So, I throw some boiling water on top of the tea-polymer, swirl it around, and dump it into my mug. I then add more boiling water on top and… it's honestly not terrible! (But for future reference, boiling liquids and cheap plastic cups don't mix. Nothing bad happened, but the structure became a little weak, and I have no idea how many iffy hydrocarbons leached into my tea.

Probably won't make a habit of creating tea-polymers in the future, but it was an interesting experiment.

cc: tea people for their cheers and jeers XD

#kitchenExperiments #millesCrepeCake #glutenFree #cakefor1 #pancakes testing some combinations of gluten free flours for an upcoming birthday dessert. I used yogurt instead of whipped cream between the layers for simplicity and will be making a coconut whip with bananas for the full dessert.

This test was for the crepes- combined oat, brown rice, chick pea flours with some cornstarch and brown sugar . A tiny bit of baking powder and oil and water to finish. Not bad consistency…

This morning I discovered that an 1/8 teaspoon each of cinnamon, liquid stevia, and butter makes my coffee taste like a cinnamon roll.

Every time I feed my #sourdough starter, I hate the idea of throwing part of it away, so I am trying so many new #kitchenExperiments this summer. I may end it when we head off for a short vacay later this month, but I did read that I could possibly freeze the starter… we shall see!

Chicken noodle soup, shirataki noodles, chicken breast, a grated carrot, some Napa cabbage, an onion, some grated fresh ginger (that I grew!) and unsalted stock.

It needed salt, and fresh ginger is wicked strong. Lesson learned!

It's been awhile since I really had time to spend messing around in the kitchen, so I spent most of yesterday fixing that. Featuring pumpkin bread, cardamom shortbread cookies, foraged chokecherry and salted plum syrups, herbed sourdough, and roasted garlic! #baking #kitchenexperiments
