Midsummer comes around
Two years ago while en-route to the mountain, I scheduled a weekend layover for a gig and associated debauchery in Arnhem. Sharing the delightful company of dear friend, dancer, occultist, and erotic Priestess Dayenne Neroli.
As way of repaying her hospitality and sating mutual creative compulsions, we indulged in an impromptu video shoot. Taking a somewhat hungover Sunday sojourn into the woods of Landgoed Mariëndaal, an estate just out of town. In various states of undress, Dayenne proved a most wonderful muse and model, and we filmed plenty of footage and b-roll to splice together later.
Except the first few edits never quite gelled, and the work was shelved… until now.
Requiring some short video clips to promote her new collective, ‘The Esoteric Order of Ouroboros‘, this was an ideal opportunity to dig back into the archives and make some (movie) magick.
Although I’ve learned a lot more about taking good quality footage since then, I was still able to work with what we had. Finding suitable snippets to complement music provided by the Order, and overlaying appropriate effects to evoke narrative and purpose. The challenge being to consistently crop my carefully composed landscape framing into a phone-friendly format.
Dayenne and the Order will release these videos to herald their attendance at Berlin’s Occulture conference this autumn, and I shall do my part to spread the word accordingly.
As all things flow in ophidian cycles, we will share the mountain again this Midsummer. Where I am certain future collaborations will be planned.
