Two films, two failures of craft: one mistakes lectures for drama, the other asks us to believe grown men don’t know what a naked woman looks like. Representation isn’t the problem. Transparency, laziness, and narrative incoherence are. Serious subjects deserve serious filmmaking.

Artists that move me
I enjoy artistic expression and while I don’t still understand the intricacies that go into the craft of video creation, I understand storytelling. These are some of the artists that I really enjoy whose craft to tell a narrative is a step superior.
They have a command over the combination of words, images and narrative that really appeals to my sensibilities.

I treat GxAce as one of the best story tellers. They have a unique style, voice, even category – instruments of photo and videography. Their cyberpunk aesthetic, the vibes of the video and even the way they change the tone of the video through excellent usage of audio – muah – chef’s kiss. There are many more who dole out the camera specs and show photos – GxAce mixes passion, care, expertise with a sprinkle of taste that’s so unique and again, subjectively, makes me rank them way higher than just another camera reviewer.
Gawx
Watch out for this kid. He came into the scene with a bang – an ability to leverage the levers of videography and story telling that had punch, vigor, and yet again – taste. He takes the mundane and makes you see the beauty in it – be it setting up your apartment or painting the wall of your home. Unlike GxAce, gawx is well noted for his craft. Yet, it’s well earned. He’s already reached my pantheon of people who’ve created something meaningful, new, a legacy.
gawx is one of those multi-faceted talents that you know you can never be. The amount of dedication to the craft this requires, the furious focus and joy you need to gain from just obsessing over the details – i can only hope to achieve that but I also know that I am great at appreciating it while accepting that’s not my forte.
p.s. this guy understands “pacing” when it comes to story telling more than anyone I know.
Faizal Westcott
Faizal’s forte isn’t the videography. It’s his ability to talk about life and photography from a larger (and imho, better) context. His growth as a photographer, as a video maker is also something that I deeply resonate with. His vibe is almost the opposite of gawx, it’s always chill =p . He’s lean back while gawx is lean forward.

David Imel is a legit amazing photographer. His ability to find story in landscapes is truly breathtaking. However, he’s also the type of story teller who resonates with me. That one that goes into a rabbithole to come out with a learning – for very few people – but for those people – like me, it resonates.
Check them out. It brings me such joy that the next generation of talent treat media modes with an innate sense of understanding that I sometimes envy. But, which I hope to also use and appreciate this year.
