I haven't been a Twitch DJ long (it will be 1 year in September), but they just announced a new DJ program. I agree artists and labels should get a cut of the revenue we generate, but I worry this program will restrict my ability to play whatever music I want from my physical media collection.
I'm planning on opting into the program, but it's still not clear to me how things will work. Will we be limited to playing only what is on the approved list of labels and tracks? Will our live streams be muted or get copyright strikes like YouTube does if we play "unapproved" music?
I have long been considering "rolling my own" streaming solution using free software like Owncast or PeerTube. Maybe it's time to make that happen.
All I want to do is preserve and share the experience of listening to records with friends.
