What i most miss from Citroen XM? Fuel gauge. I always knew whats up with fuel: how far i can go, how much litters i need till full tank.

After that i drove cars with dumb E-1/2-F.
I hate that.

Ok, now i have car with some electronic in it, it can display whatever engineers can imagine.

It shows DTE - distance till empty. FCUK. Give me litters! 😡

I even cannot found how to change dash to show remaining fuel.

Citroed XM dashboard cluster, left gauge is tachometer, center gauge - speedometer with odometer and trip odometer, right cluster is combination of 3 gauges: engine coolant temperature in °C, oil level in engine (works with ignition on and few seconds when engine started) and fuel tank gauge.
Fuel tank gauge marked: 0|||40|||80 in litters. Most amazing way to keep driver informed how far you can go, and how much it will need to refuel tank.

So both of them doing something, and it looks like all ok. Yet there smell of unburned gasoline.
What should i look for? EVAP? Clean oxygen sensors? Check injectors?

Jag ska köra iväg några dagar från tisdag. Jag har en #OBD2 adapter med Bluetooth i bilen som snackar med en enkel app #CanZE för att visa tekniska detaljer, som batterhälsa m.m.

Nu upptäckte jag att navigeringsappen A Better Route Planner har fått stöd för en sån adapter, vilket vore toppen, men det måste vara BLE, inte Bluetooth. Jag skulle gärna lägga ca 500 kr på en sån, men nu kommer frågan.

Var säljer man sådant i butik över disk? Har kollat Biltema, Thansen och de flesta teknikkedjorna. Ska kolla närmsta AD-butik på måndag. Prisjakt visar ju bara postorderfirmor. Tacksam för tips.

Checking #VW #GolfGTI with #VCDS to measure #camshaft adaptation phase position on intake and exhaust (this can warn you if the timing chain is stretching).

Position (with a warmed engine on slower idle) is <5,0 degrees so all is OK here (the chain should be good to about 93205 miles / 150 000 km, particularly with more frequent oil changes)

The mechanics stool / creeper from #LIDL is worth getting if you see it in the middle shelf (I use it so I can put the #Thinkpad #T430 on the drivers seat to reach the #OBD2 connector and sit on the stool with the drivers door open to monitor whatever is on the screen (ofc this only works for tasks where the car is stationary, but if you want to do on the move diagnostics/datalogging you need 2 people anyway for safety)

Fixed. Problem not difficult to spot! There it was dangling, the sensor cable, having nicely dragged one core away on the asphalt. But why?

When I installed this last winter, it was very cold. The plastic clips were difficult, which I assumed was because the plastic was hard from the cold.

Turns out they were just shitty clips. All of them have failed, you can see one broken part still stuck in there. I broke one during installation and used a zip-tie instead - that zip-tie was the only one still there.

Patched the cable up and used all zip-ties now. Error cleared and plausible temperature readings again.

Basically, don't buy sensors from "AUTLOG". :blobcattableflip:

Oil changed, too.

OBD2 diagnostic live data readout with both exhaust temperature sensors. Sensor 2 reads 68°C and climbs when revving the engine. With the sensor wire broken, it would read a permanent 1000°C even when starting from cold, which the ECU correctly identified as unplausible.

I recently discovered that diagnostic plugs in cars were more or less standard (OBD2) and that you could buy a plug reader for like 30 bucks. I also discovered that some OBD2 prometheus exporters exist.

So now basically my new project is to have a server in my car, like a RPi. It would srcap the OBD2 data locally and backfill it into my home prometheus database whenever the car gets into my home wifi range.

I have a cheap #Autel #OBD2 reader for the car. Reading some datapoints (gearbox adaptations) I’m expecting the values to be between -300 and +300. But the code reader is showing me values either in the range 0 to 300 or 64000 to 65386.
I believe that the values are stored as signed 16 bit values, but the code reader is displaying them as unsigned values. I have been converting them to binary and converting back to decimal, learning about two’s complement in the process.
My wife is uninterested!

Once the #OBDIIhandheldscanner 📱 is done checking for #issues, DTCs show up, usually in the form of a list.

Он просто перестал ехать и сыпал ошибками. Утром ничего не предвещало беды, а вечером сел в автомобиль, и на экране замелькало: «Низкое напряжение», «Требуется обслуживание», «Невозможно ехать». Это превратилось в историю непростого инженерного расследования, отчаяния, поиска очевидных и неочевидных решений. Но всё‑таки дело завершилось новогодним чудом: благодаря моим стараниям машина ожила. Для своих целей был приобретен на общеизвестном алибазаре девайсик с экраном, кнопками и кабелем, только для этого и был нужен. Естественно, был вскрыт и изучен. Ну как изучен... попытка была предупреждена китайскими разработчиками. Собственно, вдруг кто-то помочь сможет с определением микроконтроллера. Микроконтроллер: исполнение QFN32 маркировка спилена, 1й нарисован, но может быть и перемарком, если верить имеющейся маркировке, то имеем: 8 GND 3, 5 +3.3v 9, 10 XTAL 24, 25 CAN rx, tx CAN трансивер: 8 пинов, но ни фига не совместим с классическими 1050, 2551 и т.п. 4 GND 8 +3.3v 3,5 CAN 2,7 RX, TX Дисплей 128х64 с подсветкой, 30 пинов, задействованы 20. На базаре такого же не нашел. Какой-то прям секретный объект за 3 копейки. Собственно, хотелось бы понять какой микроконтроллер используется, тогда можно было-бы его просто перепрограммировать. Иначе, свою плату делать придется )) Далее
