Die #Fossify apps sind zwar funktional, aber optisch irgendwie altbacken. Welche Alternative gibt es sonst so? Hab für mich ein paar schöne Alternativen gefunden.

Ich suchte für Nachrichten, Kontakte und den Dialer also was anderes. Gelandet bin ich bei dem Right Dialer, Right Messages und den Right Contacts. Es gibt sogar eine Gallerie app. Passend heißt diese Right Gallery

Ebenfalls #FOSS allerdings nur im PlayStore oder über #Obtanium (Github) zu beziehen.

Funktioniert einwandfrei und ist optisch eher in der heutigen Zeit angekommen :neocat_floof_mug:

This is not a nerd problem but gatekeeping, because it - amongst other issues - adversely affects alternative app stores like #fdroid, #aptoide, #obtanium.

This is about getting rid of competition and controlling the market in a monopolist way.

I prefer #FDroid & #Obtanium over the evil Play Store to install all my Apps.

Android: #Obtanium (instead of #FDroid app) is really awesome for managing app updates.

However, this method has an issue when the naming schema of the #apk files change on the server side, and you're using a name filter to determine the matching release file. You don't get updates anymore and you don't realize it. 🤷

Be alert.

Today, I've got a very nasty upgrade issue with #SyncthingFork since they also decided to change the naming schema, the backup file format and had a direct upgrade issue. Bad combination.

Optional Google Play Mirror works for most things. Even Google Maps w/Android Auto.

I personally have no issues with my Bank apps either, utilizing "Exploit protection compatibility mode".

+For what it's worth, can still use Google Messenger while signed out on Pixels at least.
+Messenger and Google Phone with Gemini stripped out/disabled.

I first started using #fdroid in my #foss #android journey. Now, over the past few months I've been using #obtanium, though now I struggle to see the appeal. Don't get me wrong, I like it, but I'm sort of split between just using fdroid (probably with droid-ify) or Obtanium. I'm really not sure, I don't want to have to put in the effort in switching over, but at the same time I'm not sure what the benefit of Obtanium is over fdroid. I really don't know if I should switch or not, any opinions?

Graphene also includes sandboxed/mirrored google play services (optionally), in the out-of-box App Store. Instead of micro/pico-g-apps.

@m2m I'd love to get a Fairphone. At the moment I have a Galaxy S24 from my employer which is fine.. I've replaced all the default apps/keyboard with FOSS/offline alternatives and use both #Accrescent and #Obtanium for APK installations.

I'm hoping alternate firmware will be available to this phone sooner than later.

Two years today with #grapheneos on a refurbished Pixel 6 Pro at the lowest price I've paid for a phone since they stopped GIVING them to you with a 2yr plan. With GOS, #jmp, and #snikket, the previously most insecure and expensive device in the house is the most secure and inexpensive. Including donations to the great apps I've installed with #obtanium!

I was just gifted an old iPad and it's a stark contrast with a device that provides top security without preventing you from doing ANYTHING.

Times and times again I see #FDroid reps bullying developers who dared releasing their apps on it.

I've been considering adding my app to FDroid, but I think I'll go with #Obtanium to avoid pain and drama.

Spoiler: I run an own #fdroid #repo as an alternative channel for my apps #imagepipe and #TinyWeatherForecastGermany .

The problem is, unless your builds are reproducible (mine are not), you can't update with the other channel due to different apk signing keys. To switch the update channel, you need to uninstall and do new install from the new source.

Same for #obtanium .
