No idea. Mounted the small rubber shroud for the rear fan from the Quicksilver, as opposed to the plastic shield that holds the fan in the Digital Audio, and I've mounted a 120mm fan on top pointing out, Intel cooler style. I don't honestly think heat is the issue, but I'd like to at least eliminate it as a variable (or hey, maybe it is the issue, and I can prevent losing another night to fighting with yet another cursed G4).

Starting to once again lose my taste for playing with old Macs (though there's always the possibility that it's a side effect of the modified ATX power supply).

IT WORKED.

I did film the moment of truth, but all that happened was the same thing as before, the power button lit up for as long as I held it down with my finger. So I stopped filming, and then several seconds later, I heard what sounds like a fairly whiny unhealthy fan spin up, and I looked down and saw the obnoxiously RGB Corsair keyboard lit up.

I assumed nothing was happening, so didn't hold Cmd+Alt+O+F long enough to get into open firmware and boot via USB, so that's why I'm just getting the icon, I assume.

Actually now that I think of it, wouldn't it be a question mark icon if it were a matter of an HDD with no bootable OS? It might just be slowly booting off the USB as we speak cause I'm still seeing smiley Finder folder icon. ???

Oh man ROTFL!

So, a while back I found an actual FOCAL program on the net and downloaded it, lunarlander.foc. I'm pretty sure I mentioned it here but I can't find my post.😞

Anyway it doesn't run in my version of the Conway/ Kida FOCAL interpreter and I just realized why.

Because this is ALL UPPERCASE source and this FOCAL only knows function names in lower case!

And I never noticed!

This FOCAL does accept uppercase keywords, but not functions.

Using autocad r12 on mac os 9.2.2
Had to manually increase allowable ram to enable rendering. Seems amazingly backwards for an OS from 2001.
Is this a thing with os 9 or is it only for old 68k programs?

🐑💾 Ah, the thrilling world of , where you can spend countless hours setting up just to relive the glory days of OS 9. Meanwhile, your actual sits neglected, wondering why it wasn’t good enough. 🤦‍♂️ But don't worry, the wiki is here to provide an endless maze of instructions, ensuring you're never lost while doing absolutely nothing. 🙃

Would anyone here know of any non-test file that uses a standalone `\r` carriage return as a line break?

As far as I can tell, the last system to support these was Mac OS X 10.4 (released 2004), which was the last to include a "Classic Environment" emulator for Classic Mac OS.

BTW if anyone cares, my version of the Conway-Kida FOCAL ported to RISC OS and (microware) OS-9 is on my website at

I may hum… have gathered slightly too many old computers. But they are shiny and make blinking things that move around 🥺

The Mac #OS9 experience isn’t complete until you waste time finding cute little icons for all your folders.

This uncompressed screenshot at 1280x1024 in full color uses more memory than this app when running on Mac OS 9 (Classic).

ClarisWorks 5 was released at the end of 1997 and I think it has probably all I actually really use in a Word processor or Spreadsheet (not much but that’s the case for many people).

The minimum CPU to run this was apparently a 68030 at 25 MHz and 8 Mb of RAM. So yes it runs pretty fast on a PowerPC Mac.

A screenshot of Mac OS 9 with a large document using half the screen in ClarisWorks and the large text “four fucking megabytes”. UI icons are rather small as they were designed to work also on much smaller screens.

And one last for “old man yells at software that got slow for no reason while machines got much faster”.

This is opening a 130k log in… freaking Microsoft Word 2001 on upgraded G4 Cube, then launching Excel. Not bad for a computer that has 24 years 👴🏻 (20 if you count the 2004 CPU upgrade and much less if you factor in the SSD).

* Yes there’s some caching going on as it’s not the first launch I recorded but the first wasn’t that different.

Now we have node-js 🙄 #Mac #OS9 #Retrocomputing

OS 9 on the upgraded G4 Cube: Always in awe at how well this works using like 50 or 70 mb for the major apps of the time. Sure collaborative multitasking sucks but in a real usage situation it doesn’t affect much your workflow.

I am also surprised at how comfortable I am at using this 25+ years later. Well I did spend 4 years using Mac OS 7 & 8 daily at work and slightly older versions of the apps.

I still have dual boot to OSX 10.5 but indeed a super fast #OS9 is better
