#MickFleetwood re-recorded “These Strange Times,” a mostly-forgotten track from #FleetwoodMac’s most forgotten album (Time, 1995) — and somehow made it feel now.

We talked about his hopes for one more Mac album, his tribute to #PeterGreen, how a weird spoken-word song finally found its moment, and why being the rhythm section means staying flexible through 18 lineup changes.

Yesterday 55 years ago yesterday Peter Green played his last concert as a member of Fleetwood Mac and set off on his amazing life journey which included a search for meaning, a search for God, a stop at a kibbutz, a stay in an insane asylum and an incredible jam he played with Israeli musicians in Tel Aviv, although he didn't want to play but they talked him into it.
He didn't have a guitar with him but they arranged a guitar for him too, his favourite Les Paul.
This record was thought lost for many years, but then miraculously was found.
I realise that in the terms of Fediverz, who is ten years old, 55 years ago is ancient, palaeolithic. And I'm not sure if those reading these lines know the name Peter Green, his music and the sound of his guitar, incredible in its subtlety and sensuality. But in fact music has no age - it is alive if it sounds.
Last year a small St. Petersburg publishing house Because ACT published my book "Peter Green's Heaven and Hell" - a small edition, small format, few pages, which tells the life of a man who played blues and rock, was more popular with his band than The Beatles and jumped off the ship of success, prosperity and fame to go his strange and lonely way in the gloom of life.
Why did he do that?
But the music stayed in his soul and in his fingers when he picked up the guitar again decades later.
There's a digital book of the same title floating around the net - it's on many sites - if you're interested in Green's life you can download it, but it's actually an early version, incomplete. The book in its full, final form is on paper.
And the picture is the cover of a recent issue of a rock magazine. I'm not the only one who remembers the day when Peter Green went straight from the stage to hell and heaven.

Fleetwood Mac, In London [1968], 2010 on Lilith

This is a bootleg that’s been released under a number of names – originally “London Live ’68” on Thunderbolt records. It was recorded at the Polytechnic of Central London, April 27th, 1968 – just a few months after their debut album.

Lineup here is Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer, Mick Fleetwood, and John McVie. It’s not the greatest sound recording (as expected) but does give you a sense of what it would have been like to be in that room for the very beginnings of the British Blues version of Fleetwood Mac.

20 and counting albums that have had an impact on who I am. One album a day for 20 days and then some. Might include explanations and reviews, always album covers. In some kind of order, or not.

Album cover for "In the Skies" by Peter Green, featuring a sky with clouds and a bright light source, creating a serene and ethereal atmosphere.

Fleetwood Mac, The Pious Bird of Good Omen, 1969 on Blue Horizon

This is the earlier, Peter Green led, British Blues Fleetwood Mac, and collects their first four non-album UK singles and their B-Sides. It serves as a pretty good intro to what that first-stage Fleetwood Mac was all about.

Eddie Boyd guests on “The Big Boat” and “Just the Blues” – and there are covers here of Little Willie John and Elmore James as well as originals by Green with Jeremy […]

The prompt is Play
Fleetwood Mac, "Then Play On" 1970

Once upon a time, before the cocaine, before the grafting on of incongruous singer/songwriters, #FleetwoodMac was a British #BluesRock band led by #PeterGreen's heavy #guitar.

The latter-day American version of the band was just some polyamorous collective, still supported by the husks of founding members / #RhythmSection #MickFleetwood and #JohnMcVie, who sent out audio diaries to an adoring public that…well, I just don’t understand.

On Then Play On, their third studio album, we have some quieter, #folk-tinged tracks that make the album, though rooted in blues, sound very English. My favorite track, the guitar-heavy Oh Well, was not on the original 1969 release, but with some track shuffling, was added to the 1970 US release.

Great new Fleetwood Mac compilation out today, highlighting the transitional period of 1969 to 1974. If it weren’t for Bob Welch, FM might not have lasted until the Buckingham/Nicks era. 👍 #FleetwoodMac #BobWelch #PeterGreen #Qobuz
