"#April Love" by Arthur Hughes, one of the paintings discussed by Dennis T. Lanigan in our newly revised and extended section on this Pre-Raphaelite painter victorianweb.org/painting/hugh #painting #PreRaphaelite #Victorian

A young woman in an eye-catching blue gown looks downcast as she shelters in a quiet spot by an ivy-covered tree-trunk. Flower petals have fallen to the ground --and a young man can be seen indistinctly in the background: young love can lead to heartbreak.

Painting of Jane Morris, the Arts & Crafts movement embroidery artist and famous “stunner” and Pre-Raphaelite model, who was also married to William Morris, poet, designer, socialist, and activist.

Jane was such a remarkably talented woman, it’s a shame her work often gets overshadowed by her husband’s, but her embroidery was absolutely stunning and so important to the movement.

Born #OTD 1828, Charles Allston Collins, younger brother of the novelist Wilkie Collins, and a #PreRaphaelite artist too often overlooked. victorianweb.org/art/illustrat

Convent Thoughts by Collins, 1851: a young nun looks at a flower in the convent garden, holding an illuminated book in her other hand. Lilies and water-lilies surround her. The painting has a beautifully designed frame, also featuring lilies.Collins's elaborate design for the front cover of The Mystery of Edwin Drood, with various episodes from the novel depicted around the title and Dickens's name

The #chalkart in front of our house is loosely based on Waterhouse's "Boreas" (1903), and she is prepared for the wet weather about to arrive (part of her pavement is already getting damp). #Waterhouse #Boreas #preraphaelite #chalk
A chalk drawing on pavement, of a woman with pale skin and dark hair and eyes, wrapped in a large blue shawl, one hand behind her neck, one hand over her head; there are some autumn leaves in the foreground).

After a year of searching, I finally got a copy of "Epic"! First saw its stunning Pre-Raphaelite-inspired art, The Beguiling, at Tate Britain. Barry Windsor-Smith's work beautifully honours Edward Burne-Jones’ Briar Rose series. #epicmagazine #preraphaelite #art

English Pre-Raphaelite painter and designer Edward Burne-Jones was #BOTD in 1833.

The exterior of this magnificent wardrobe, painted by Burne-Jones, is decorated with scenes from The Prioress’s Tale, one of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. It incorporates a dedication to his friend William Morris and repeated portraits of Jane Burden, the future Mrs Morris, as the Virgin Mary.
